State of California, County of Nevada, in the matter of the inquisition on the body of John Givenney, VERDICT. We, the undersigned, the jurors summoned to appear before B. Johnson, the Coroner of Nevada county, at Boston Ravine on the i9th day of September, 1877, to inquire into the cause of death of John Givenney, having been duly sworn according to law and having made such inquisition after inspecting the body and hearing the testimony adduced upon our oaths each and all do say that we find the deceased was named John Givenney; was a native of Ireland, aged about 41 years; that he came to his death on or about the 19th day of September, 1877, in this county from hanging by the neck and that the hanging was by his own act willfully done with intent himself to kill. All of which we certify by this inquisition in writing by us signed this 19th day of September, 1877. Charles Davey, Arthur Errington, Joseph Fouyer, Richard Hooper, Joseph Tregellus, George Crandall, William Lakey, Dennis Caroll, Jurors. Persons and Things. The weather has been disagreeably warm for several days. Whenever a fire occurs within twenty miles of when a Chinaman has been within forty years, every body cries out “incendiary.” Be very careful about stove pipes and flues. Give all such things a thorough inspection before you begin to use them for the Winter. W. J. Organ is engaged in examining and doing all necessary repairs to the various bridges and trestle works on the line of the Narrow Gauge Railroad. The Company is bound to keep everything in good repair, so as to avoid accidents of any kind. Hon. Niles Searls, Senator elect, has secured quarters at the Golden Eagle Hotel, Sacramento, for the time of the session of the Legislature. It is understood here that Mr. John Thomas, of this place, will be Deputy County Recorder, under Captain Rapp. Mr. Thomas is a young man of popularity, of accommodating ways, and is well qualified for the position of Deputy Recorder. Do not forget to attend the parlor entertainment which is to be given at Hamilton Hall this evening. It will be instructive and amusing. NORTH STAR MINE.—We notice that the stockholders of the North Star mine, of this district, are called to meet on the 25th of this month, in San Francisco, for the purpose of electing Trustees to serve during the coming year. We do not anticipate any early resumption of work at the North Star, and yet there is plenty of gold in that ground. TO THE PUBLIC. Some designing puppy for several weeks has been busily circulating a report that I have been employing Chinamen, and that I have received threatening letters from the Caucasians. The whole is false, as I have employed no Chinamen nor received any letters. [Doctor] W. C. JONES. Grass Valley, Sept. 19th, 1877 FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1877 MARRIED. At the residence of A. E.
