44 FEBRUARY 25 & 27, 1877 GRASS VALLEY UNION
The young man who evolved it supposed that it would got far toward reconciling the Democrats
to the fact that Mr. Tilden has been cheated out. . . . It is not especially the Democrats who have been
cheated in this little affair but a majority of the American people. The use of the election machinery
was in the hands of Mr. Hayes’ friends and it was never allowed to favor in the least the majority vote
of the people of the United States. And Mr. Hayes will have it hanging over him all the time that he
has been cheated into the position... .
GOVERNMENT TITLES.—The property owners residing in North San Juan, French Corral and
Sebastopol, will, in a few days, received from the County Judge, John Caldwell, Government titles to
their land. Next week the deeds will be made out and ready for delivery. The people in that section
have been waiting a long time for their deeds, but now, as everything has been arranged, they will
have no further trouble about the matter.
NOT ONE.—The Bee has raised a domestic question in Sacramento. It asked if there was
a girl in the city, 18 years of age, who was able to knit her own stockings? The inquiry has
resulted in discovering a few German girls who know how to knit, but not one girl whose
mother was American born. We very much doubt whether there is one living in this city.—
Marysville Appeal.
How about Grass Valley girls and knitting. Have we born a girl who can knit a stocking? We know
that the prettiest girls in the world dwell here, but can any of them knit? We hope to hear from some
of them.
AROUND TOWN.—The town has been, for many weeks, enjoying a revival of religion. The
Methodist church is well filled every night with men, women and children who are anxiously
inquiring what they shall do to be saved. Many have joined the church and have publicly professed
their faith. The meeting will be continued for an indefinite period; probably until Moody and Sanky
arrive; and they are confidently expected in Grass Valley.
