Firm Promises To Reduce — Smoke, Noise (Continued on page 4) _ The Yuba River Lumber _Co. put forward a program for noise, smoke, mud and dust abatement for its Brunswick Road sawmill site, in an effort to satisfy the objections of surrounding residents to its application for an industrial zoning of the property. “Attorney Leo Todd, representing the company, appeared before the county planning commission Monday night to present the program. Some 30 residents of the Cedar Ridge -Brunswick Road area attended the meeting, many of whom questioned Todd about the plan or voiced objection. The hearing wascontinuedto Apr. 24 for further study. To combat noise at its proposed planing mill, the compnay will install "noise abatement arresters", according to Todd. It will also plant a protective row of trees along Brunswick Road. ‘.To reduce smoke, the company is considering installing a chipping machine which will chip down for export all raw material now being burned except bark. If this machine is not put in, the company will use new burners with "smoke abatement-design,” Todd said. To eliminate mud and dust Todd said the company “will put in anything" including blacktop if necessary. L.E. Woodworth of Cedar Ridge, a long-time resident of the area, supported the company “if they keep their agreements. " Among those questioning Todd or objectingto the company proposal were Mrs. Pauline Dodge,Glenn Sucetti, W.L. Satterlee, David Maltman, and Gordon Crane.
