Nevada City is proceeding on its search‘ for sufficient water to avoid spending $100,000 for a covered water storage tank. ‘John DeHorn, chief engineer for Cranmer Engineering, reported to the councilmen Monday that Cranmer recommended the city apply for water rights to water from Bureau of Land Management land on Canada Hill, The city had Gary Tanko dig a well at Canada Hill which is capable of producing 47 gallons of water per minute. It is the rights for this water which the city will now apply for. The council authorized Beryl ‘Robinson Jr., city manager, to apply to the Water Rights Board, ‘ DeHorn also mentioned water which comes from a tunnel from the Murchie mine. The State Health Board will check the water this week to see if it is potable. If it is the council will discuss further trying to obtain the water for city use. Robinson is also checking on other sites for wells, he told the council. The city needs at least 400 gallons of. water per minute and preferably 500 gallons, to avoid building a covered storage tank, — Mayor John Rankin appointed himself and councilman Arch McPherson as a committee to inspect Leo Angelini’s car sales and garage and report on the advisability of: allowing a sign change, Angelini requested a new sign to advertise his new product, Chrysler Motors cars. The council granted permission for Leonard Carey to erect a real estate sign at his campground site visible from the freeway at the south end of Nevada City. Tom Coleman, salesman for Terra Alta Real Estate, made an informational reportto the council on a proposed restaurant on Coyote Street. Coleman said he will appear before the city. planning commission to ask for a zoning change for the property at 520 Coyote, The planned restaurant is not a chain, Coleman said, and will have off street parking for. 15 to.20 cars,.
