Branagh stated that purchase of mining claims without a careful check of their validity often leads to financial loss and disappoint ment. "A quick claim deed is worthless if the claim it is based on is invalid," stated Branagh. A claim may be invalid for a number of reasons including improper loc ation procedures, location on Forest Supervisor War fame site, verify discovery of aluable minerals, and inspect land status and location records at the County Recorder’s Office. A check with the local Forest Ranger should also be made for additional informations; >* ~ ‘Branagh emphasizes that it is the policy of the U.S, — Forest Service to encourage legitimate prospecting and mining on open National Forest-land., <a t eg Ma yonder THE moUNt A\N School teacher Elmer (Chief) Stevens has been named Citizen of the Year by the Nevada County Historical Society. Growing more or less prostrate, the flowers are hidden as they come directly from the center on a very short footstalk and often are covered by fallen pine needles. Having no petals, the flower is formed by a brownish red three-lobed calyx, the lobes gradually fading into thread-like points. The whole of the calyx and tube are covered with fine hairs. The delightful aromatic fragrance of the crushed leaves and of the root suggesting ginger, justifies the common name. However, there seems to be no record of this particular species having been used as a substitute for ginger as has another closely related one, Asarum canadense, Mrs. Russell Wilson and Retha’ Deaths City, and Halstead Downey of San Bruno.
