ee ee BY DEAN THOMPSON . . SPRING FEVER.. What happens when you write a column then find you have other items for the space and decide to hold the material for a week?.. You must then go through and change the dated material so the reader will know what date you are talking about---But whep you have Spring Fever, asIhave, you just say, “Dear Reader, the balance of this column was written to be published lastweek. Please keep this in mind.";. /Thanks, Dear Reader. BLOSSOM TIME---Spring is arriving in our friendly foothills, but those who leave our area for. the flatlands will find it has already arrived in full force in the warmer clime---And with Spring comes the annual reception for American consulates to celebrate Pan American Day in S. F. It seemed to this observer that this year's reception was a somber affair in comparison to last years's gay and noisy gathering. We wonder if the threat of revolution that hangs poised over the heads of many Latin countries has filtered down to consulate level? --While inthe city Baghdad by the Bay, here's a tip for those who plan a visit there in the near future and who enjoy S.F, night life. In Baghdad fashion, the new nightclub Naji Baba has opened adjacent to the corer of Green and Columbus. We caught their show on the third night of business and suggest that now it the time to see it and enjoy the unique music of the near east as played on drum, lyre and santoor. If you enjoy the unusual, we're sure you'll like the music and the belly dancer. See it soon before Franciscans find it is in their town and pack the downstairs club. eeeeee88 THE VICTOR---Among the regular readers of Fool's Gold is the FrankJakobs(Hobbyhouse) family. Frank noted that T emby 's Candy Store pictured in last week's column ds . the present location of the Hobbyhouse. Then he began todo some figuring on occupants of that spot since the candy store rounded out its sales of sweets with VICTOR records (His Master's Voice). He found that VICTOR Montre operated an electrical business there selling VICTOR (R.C. A.) radios and phonos. And. the Hobbyhouse now sells VICTOR adding machines and calculators. Seeeeee088 A PLEA---Harold Wagenheim, Los Angeles, sent along the information that the St. John's Indian School and Mission is sorely in need of funds for 1962. The 400 Indian children also are in need of food and clothing. Readers are urged to contact Brother Bernardino B. Brophy at St. John's Indian School and Mission, Komatke Village, Laveen P,O., Arizona. eeeeeee88 SIMPLE LANGUAGE---Two things bothered Nevada City's city council Monday night when City Clerk Sam Hooper reada letter from County Clerk John Trauner: "May we _ ask your City Council to publicly abandon Winter St. as a street and transfer title there to the County of Nevada.”.. One thing that bothered the council was that the city is not willing to give up ALL of Winter St., but is willing to vacate the portion of Winter St. between the courthouse and proposed courthouse annex. So in simple language the city moved to abandon Winter St. between Washington St. and Court and Church Sts. A public hearing will be held on the proposal May 14----The second eyebrow raiser in Trauner's letter was the use of the word “coterminous” to describe the location of the desired abandonment. Councilmen had to take a look at the word themselves, thinking Clerk Samhad goofed in his pronunciation. The council finally’ decided they knew what the county wanted without a definition of the word and proceeded inspite of the word---With dictionary in hand, we caninform the council that the word coterminous: means conterminous. And if that doesn't help, well! !!---Conterminous means having the same bounds or limits. Seeeeeeee8 PIPE DREAM ---Fred Forsman (Formerly of Nev. Co,) and Sam Karas are presenting “Pipe Dream" Roger and Hammerstein's musical hit based on John Steinbeck's "Sweet Thursday” April 17-21 and every Friday and Saturday night through May 12---Fred calls it a "a Monterey premier for a Monterey story" --=Wantto go?
