Editor-Manager Second class postage paid at Nevada City, Calif. Adjudicated a legal newspaper of general circulation by the Nevada County Superior Court, June 3, 1960 Decree No, 12,406 Subscription Rates: One year, $4.00; Two years, $6. 00 Three years, $8.00 Printed by Berliner & Mc Ginnis, Nevada City. EDITORIAL City Election The convincing victories in the recent city council election of Dr. Arch McPherson and Mayor Bob Carr can be interpreted in many ways. The most obvious andclear-cut interpretation is that the people of this town, in giving McPherson the largest number of votes, share his desire to preserve "the natural beauty and charm" of Nevada City, provide new parking and water mains--and most important ofall, tostart planning now tocreatea "public image" of Nevada City that will draw tourists and shoppers off of the new high-speed freeway which will pass below Broad St. At the same time, Carr's write-in victory can be said to re-affirm the voters’ approval of the mayor's steady and unflinching support of the downtown freeway route. We see nothing contradictory in these two points of view. In fact they may represent, ingeneralterms, aformula for uniting heretofore dissident factions of the town. In hope that thi8 may be so, we congratulate the two successful council candidates ~ of the Week by Lillian Mott OW Scarlet Fritillary--Lily family Fritillaria Tecurva Truly a rewarding find, noted for its, brilliance of color andits rare beauty and, grace.
