NC sewage
backs up
into homes
There was damage to three
houses on Reward street in Nevada City last week when amanhole on the city sewer line became clogged and sewage escaped into the homes, according
to Beryl Robinson Jr., city manager.
Mrs. Wendell Clark, occupant
of one of the houses, said the
sewage backed up to a depth of
one and a half inches in the hall
and two bedrooms of her home,
Mrs, Clark described the sewage as gurgling and flowing from
the kitchen sink and bathroom
"bottles and bottles" of disinfectants in a mammoth cleanup job. Mrs. Clark said hardwood floors buckled and workmen are now laying new floors.
However, Mrs. Clark and Robinson agreed that a house occupied by the William Davis family
received the brunt of the onslaught. Accordingto Mrs, Clark
the occupants were not at home
at the time, and when the door
was finally opened sewage came
out "flowing like a creek."
Mrs. Clark said the Davis
family has vacated the premises
pending restoration of carpets,
floors and furniture. The other
home involved is occupied by the
Craig Davies family.
Robinson teday stressed that
the city is cooperating in every
way with the victims of the
strange flood. He said city crews
were on the scene and corrected
the problem minutes after it was
reported, He also said that adjusters from an insurance company which protects the city were
summoned.
