To Observe Highway
Parking Regulations
Skiers heading for the snow
country are cautioned not to park
their automobiles along any of
the Sierra highways where parking
is prohibited. The usual fine for
such violations is $20 per day.
Many winter sports enthusiasts
have left their cars parked in such
areas fortwo orthree days despite
the "No Parking" signs. Suchcars
are ticketed each day and the resulting fines can easily amount to
$40 -$60.
According to the courts, the
stiff penalties were put into effect
this year only after urgent requests from many of the resort
owners, the California Highway
Patrol and state and county road
maintenance departments.
This parking problem has been
most acute on Highway 40 in the
Donner Summit Area and along
the roads leading into the Squaw
Valley and Alpine Meadows ski
areas,
Thecourts and enforcement officials claim that the stiff fines
are necessary because the full
width of the roadway must be kept
clear.
