Charles A.DeTurk, director of the Department of Parks andRecreation, this week released the revised five-year program along with information on the $150, 000 recreational bond issue that will appear onthe June 5 ballot. DeTurk emphasized that the revised program of needs was made necessary because of private acquisitions of property originaily intended to be used for recreational purposes, He noted that the Nevada County NUGGET was one of 35 newspapers in the state calling for an accelerated park acquisition and development program, The statewide bond issue would provide $95 million for the purchase and development of property under the Department ofParks and Recreation, with sites to be approved by the legislature. Another $45 million would be available to counties in the state, ona population basis, for the development of regional recreational facilities, The remaining $10 million would be split between small craft harbor development and wildlife conservation board reports, Of the park funds, minimum expenditures would be established for northern and southern California projects, with the funds above minimum available on a statewide basis.
