Shown (left to right) are Supervisors Gene Ricker and Tabe Bishop, County Clerk John Trauner, Chairman of the Boardof Supervisors Henry Loehr, William Cassettari, counsel for the supervisors, and Supervisors Guy Robinson and Neil Hennessy. Brown, “downto my fighting weight, " celebrated his 57th birthday Saturday at a family gathering in Palm Springs atthe end of a week's vacation. The governor said he was ready “to embark onthe most intensive campaign of my 18 years of political life," and that he expects the gubernatorial election tobe the "roughest, toughest political contest inthe states history. " Mrs. ElizabethR. Smith, recently resigned from her post as treasurer ofthe U.S., has taken up full-time duties in the Brown campaign. The Brown campaign headquarters said the California Poll now shows Gov. Brown leading Nixon 45 per cent to 42 per cent. Kuchel said the purchase of U.N. bonds as already approved by the Senate is urgent in the interest of America and in the interest of peace. eeees8 MARGARETTE B, MEGGS The sixth candidate to enter the race for supervisor of District 4, Mrs. Margarette Sonic Boom Protect By Kuchel WASHINGTON ---In protest against disturbance and frightening of heavily-populated communities, U.S. Senator Thomas H. Kuchel of California has urged Defense Secretary McNamara to direct "service-wide consideration" of measures to cut down incidents of "sonic booms" from high-flying military aircraft. The Senior California Senator noted that complaints have reached him periodically for many years and from various sections of California where the public has been alarmed and inconvenienced when airplanes penetrate the sound barrier. His letter to the Defense Secretary was prompted by protests that such incidents occur "almost daily" at the Catalina Island resort community of Avalon. While noting the impossibility of preventing ‘booms’ completely, Kuchel said the continued reports "would appear to warrant renew ed efforts" to emphasize the public objections upon all Armed Forces’ personnel He suggested the Defense Department might think about “other steps to insure the fullest cooperation from all pilotshaving occasion to fly over or in the vicinity of thickly -populated areas”. Zoning Study In AUBURN---A comprehensive zoning enabling ordinance covering all of Placer County was accepted for study today by the Placer County Planning Commission. The new enabling ordinance would permit the County Board of’ Supervisors and the Planning Commission to apply precise zoning to the county after detailed studies amd public hearings. C. A. Gibbs, Chariman of the Planning Commission, said that copiesafthe enabling act would be made available to interested persons for study prior to the public hearings to be held before acceptance. The new ordinance was prepared by the County Planning Department. According tothe department Director, Justin F. Barber, the enabling act will provide
some 19 zoning categories into which property can be classified ranging from farm districts, single family zones to industrial districts. Gibbs, alsosaid, that precise zoning will establish many property uses asa matter of right and will allow development of multiple commercial developments and other types of property uses to proceed without the necessity of getting a land development permit as is presently required. Haley Moves Up In Test MARYSVILLE--Allan Haley, ‘Nevada Union High School senior was one of four top winners in the annual Bank of America high school achievement awards program last week in Marysville. Haley won top honors in the science and mathematics branch of the bank’s awards program. He has thereby qualified fora minimum award of $150, and will compete in Sacramento with winners from five other areas to determine which student in each of four categories will win a $1000 Scholarship.
