It happened IQ YEARS ago
The oldest incorporated trade association in the country,
the United States Brewers Association, was organized in
1862 . . . the same year that
—
IN CALIFORNIA, despite the blizzard of '62, stagecoaches
kept rolling on the Salt Lake City to San Francisco run. After
arriving in California these rugged travelers often relaxed
with a refreshing glass of beer.
For even then, beer was the traditional beverage of moderation. Beer still provides enjoyment for Californians, as well_as_a good living
for the 26,300 employees and the many suppliers of the California Brewing Industry.
TODAY, in its centennial year, the United States
Brewers Association still works constantly to
assure maintenance of high standards of quality
and propriety wherever beer and ale are served.

Fishing Season
Opens Saturday,
Crowds Expected
SACRA MENTO---T housands
of avid trout fishing enthusiasts will take to the lakes
and streams Saturday for the
official opening of the state's
general trout season.
The limit will be the same
as last year: 10 trout or salmon in combination, but
not more than 10 pounds and
one fish, according to the
California De part ment of
Fish and Game.
There are only minor
changes in this year's trout
and salmon regulations, but
anglers are urged to check
pages 12 through 28 of their
1962 sports fishing regulations, booklet, available
free from angling license
dealers, for certain exceptions to general openings and
limits.
Because of the large number of fishermen anticipated
during the opening weekend,
those planning to journey to
their favorite “hot spot" are
urged by the DFG to be sure
to obtain their fishing
licenses and before leaving
for their angling destination,
License dealers in popular
fishing areas often run out of
supplies of licenses and
stamps.
In order to fish for trout
the basic $3 license and two
$1 stamps are required. As
usual,wardens will be out
in large numbers on opening
weekend to enforce fishing
laws.
Many early season trout
fishermen may find the going
fe oeieed .
Re i ee
rough during the start of the
season in high-elevation
lakes, reservoirs and streams
because of an abundance of
late winter snowfall which
makes some popular fishing
spots inaccessible. ‘
However, the situation
should be better in low -elevation trout locations where
waterconditions will be
better and access good in
most instances.
On the other hand, high
snow fall and plenty of winter
rain is expected to improve
water conditions immensely
during later spring and summer periods in mountain regions. Reservoirs, whose
water levels were down
during previous dry years,
will be way up this season
with added runoff water.
As in past years, the Department of Fish and Game
has done much stocking of
‘“atchable trout in fishing
watersup and down thestate
before the season's opening.
However, some fishing
spots won't receive supplies
of catchabletrout until later
‘because water or access conditions are not suitable for
planting at this time.
The Department of Fish
and, Game urges all anglers
not to trespass on private
property. Buying a license
doesn't constitute permission
to enter private land without
authorization from owners or
those in charge of property,
the department reminded.
