IT'S BLOSSOM TIME...Peculiar blossoms for goringtiow in
the Sierra foothills appeared this Weekend. Sugar Pine Lodge
( above ) on the highway between Grass Valley and Nevada
City looked more like an Alpine lodge with a blanket of snow
leading between the snow laden trees to the lodge itself. But
speaking of snow-laden trees, those along Highway 20 (top,
right ) were holding unusual masses of.the white powder as if
to boast of the beauty of the only direct highway to Reno noted
more for its scenery than its concrete.
at White Cloud,
And on that highway, ~
the picnic area signs and those telling of
where to get fire permits were almost obscured by the drifts.
.but not quite hidden. After all,
and don't forget your permit.
it is fire season, you know,

Fishing
Season
To Open
One of this area's renowned
fishermen, William George,
NUHS principal, predicts
"one of the best openings in
years" forthe start of the loifthe weather remains clear
between now and then.
George advises that due to
the cold weather the fish will
probably be down deep. He
predicts that bait fishermen
“should be out after the big
ones” --and should land a fair
share of them.
‘It's a little cold for dry
flies," George says, “but wet
flies andnymphs should bring
in a few if the water is clear."
What baittouse? Helgramites, he says knowingly,
are still the favorite of the
old-timers.
George, it should be added,
is strictly a fly fishermen.
. It has been said he could
wear a blindfold and cast a
fly into the Black Hole of
Calcutta and pull out a trout
--even if there were no trout
. in the vicinity.
