Hippie’s Plans For
Local Be In’ Revealed
Rumors that a "Beatnick" or Hippie invasion is pending this
spring have some foundation in fact it was learned by the Nugget
this week, A proclamation was issued by the Diggers, one of the
more organized groups of San Francisco’s Hip set, ge, Bw

The weather must have discouraged a major turnout for only
five pilgrims appeared but more may be on the way. The pro=clamation invited the brethern to stay the summer and beyond..
way beyond, The proclamation is printed below in its ontirety
and if it can be taken at face value it is a poetic expression of
one way to enjoy the beautiful mountains that surround us.
Two paragraphs contain certain lines that are intriguing and
give a very. descriptive view of what kind of a summer the socalled hippies envision in the hills, ",.,.Free, flower ladies,
sacraments, love, pine trees, lakes, children, flowers, herbs,
snow, deer, religion, food, freedom,.."
more practical ring but retains the same sense of uphoric communion with nature, thus: “Bring, tents, food, love, camping
equipment, equipment, carpenters, axes, hammers, nails,
shovels, wooden flutes, drums, lumber.."
The hippie idea of summer camping is poetic if not practical
and the picture of Digger work parties being accompanied by
wooden flutes and drums does have a picturesque ring to it,
Harriet Walsh of the hotel in Washington has not had any contact with the hippies yet and neither has Douglas Ribble of the
River Rest grocery store, Eric Leffingwell, the Ranger in Bloom_ field, could not be contacted before press time for a statement,
In any casé,the invasiondoes not appeartohave begun in earnest,
