Shopping At Home Is Two Way Street The shop at home rule isn't complicated, It simply :reads SPEND AT HOME, You help us and we'll help you. There are exceptions, We know that people travel away from home and buy things they could have purchased here, But, if the motives for these trips could be accurately revealed, we'd find that most of those trips are as much for pleasure as for shopping. We don't begrudge anyone a change of scene or a dinner and show out of town, We're talking about spending at home to help keep the local economy vital and there has hardly ever been a time when we could have used added local sales more than right now, Spending at home is a two-way street, This newspaper has a policy of not accepting retail advertising from out of the area, We refuse foreign ads and will always continue to do so to protect the livelihood of local merchants, Traffic going the other way on that street is something we object to, When a local organization budgets more to papers outside the area than they do to us we don't like it and we won't hesitate saying so to the individuals involved. One of our responsibilities is to promote worthwhile local activities, We try. In the future we hope that certain organizations re-examine their advertising policies and try to reciprocate, Chappie Names 6th District Assistant Assemblyman Eugene A. The Editor To The Editor. The other day I heard-a_man say that Wells Fargo rana stage out of Nevada City. I imagine the man was about 60 years old so\I would like to correct him. Oh yes thier was stages that ran\out of here four of them in fact but’Wells Fargo did not run’ one of them, I was a onery brat then about 8 years old and I guess I am still onery and I know Wells Fargo had a wagon and one horse to haul the gold that came out of the mines to the depot. Thier office was in.the National Hotel next to the post office I rode back and forth a good many times, At my age of 81I may make a little mistake but not where Wells Fargo is concerned. I wonderhow many of the old timers recall the charcoal pit
on the mountain above the East Harmony Mine on one side and the old stage road of the early days on the other side running half way up on the side it was level a good many miles and came out near Blue Tent. I was up there some time ago but itis all trees and brush now and if you don't know where it is you wont find it.I would like to tell you about ‘a chineese wood chopper who worked near Blue Tent. He seen a boot sticking out of the ground’ he pulled it out and a leg bone came up with it. He ranall the way to the sheriffs office and they had ahard time to get him to go back and show where he found the boot. The Chineese were afraid of the dead these things I write are true and at my age I still have a pretty good memory, Jack Bassett National Hotel Nevada City, Ca, ~ Dear Sir; The members of Laurel Parlor No. 6, Native Daughters of the Golden West, wish to thank you for the generous publicity we have received from your paper,Especially do we appreciate the help and co-operation shown by Mrs, Lura Arnold in our publicity, The extra help in commemorating Laurel Parlor's 80th Anniversary has been noted by all the members and we are grateful, Sincerely, /s/ Ethel Brady President Native Daughters of the Golden West LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE ON PUBLIC HEARING ON NEVADA CITY GENERAL PLAN NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to Section 65355 of the California Government Code, that the City Council of the City of Nevada City will hold a public hearing for the purpose of considering the adoption of the Nevada City General Pian, or any part or element of such Plan, dated August, 1966, and prepared by Williams, Cook and Mocine, planning consultants, Copies of said General Plan are available for inspection at the office of the City Clerk, City Hall, Neyada City, California, Said hearing will be held on May 8, 1967, at 8:00 P.M., in the Council chambers, at the City Hall, Nevada City, California, at which time and place all interested persons may appear and be heard, Dated; April 21, 1967.
