Native Daughters Honor Fifty Year Service Members Twenty-three members of the Native Daughters of the Golden West braved the snow showers and icy night to celebrate, and reminisce a bit, at the 80th Anniversary of Laurel Parlor on April 20, 1967. Regardless of the unpleasant weather, one of the warmest and happiest events of the season was enjoyed by all who attended due to the planning and artistic ability of Lenore Coughlin, chairman of the evening, ably assisted by Vera Steger and Ann Trewella. Preceding the business meeting, a delicious dinner was served at Hazel's in Nevada City. The tables were decorated with antique dolls from Lenore Coughlin's collection of 80 years, . beautifully gowned in the fashion of that era. The dolls were combined with pink and red camellias arranged in compotes given the Native Daughters years ago by Nellie Clarke, Josie Muscardini and Alison Watt.An Anniversary cake, decorated, and surrounded by Laurel leaves, added to the decor. One of the antique dolls used belonged to Mrs. James Colley. Honored for having given fifty years of ‘their lives as members of Laurel Parlor No. 6 were Esther McCluskey, Sarah Charonnat, Eleanor Bolton, Clara Jacobs and Ann Trewella. Honored guests introduced and welcomed were Phyllis Butz, Deputy Grand President to Laurel Parlor, Columbia Parlor No. 70) and Gladys Blanchard, Supervising District Deputy Grand President. Phyllis Butz, considered by Laurel Parlor as the "sunshine of the Parlor" whenever she visits, congratulated the Parlor on it's 80th Anniversary. Gladys Blanchard also offered her congratulations and told of a visit to Auburn's Parlor during the official visit of Hazel Mallette, Marshal. After six months absence because of illness, Sara Charonnat was most happy to be present and was given a big welcome by the members of the Parlor. Eleanor Bolton, who now resides in Marysville, was also welcomed back fora visit. During the business session, Gwen Anderson and Gladys Blanchard were nominated as delegates to Grand Parlor to be held at Santa Rosa in June. Mae Norton and Eleanor Bolton were chosen as alternates. Lenore Coughlin entertained by reading an article from The Morning Union of Thursday, April 22, 1909, telling of the 22nd birthday of Laurel Parlor. Luvia Kilroy also read an article from the Transcript, dated July 16, 1904, when the officers of 1904 were installed by Ollie Caries: ee
