$157,815 Busy motorcycle and mini-bike business
grant for
air park
The announcement that a
$157,815 federal aviation grant
has been approved for the Nevada County Air Park is amilestone in continuing efforts to upgrade the facility.
United States Congressman
Harold T. Johnson announced approval of the grant through telegrams to The Union and agencies
involved with the operation of the
airport.
Harry Hider, county director
of public works, said the grant
money will be used to acquire
28 acres of land adjacent to
the park and to construct a new
taxi-way system and tie-down
area. He anticipates that work
will begin in July.
LeRoy Geist is chairman of
the board of supervisors appointed airport advisory committee. Randy Bullock is manager of the Golden Empire Fixed
Base Operation.

located on
N.C. highway
Back in the days when "mother
was a girl'’ very few members
of her sex either rode or owned
one!
Today, women by the hundreds are buying and ridingmotorcycles!
In Western Nevada County one
of the busiest motorcycle and
mini-bike agencies is Cobb
Equipment, owned and operated
by Joe and Betty Cobb at 12121
Nevada City Highway. They are
the area agents for the famous
Hondas and Hodakas. . . .both
products of Japan; and both filling a growing need for economical transportation and recreational vehicles.
Joe Cobb had been in the
logging contracting business for
a number of years when, suddenly, he felt he'd had all he
. wanted of that type of thing.
And, in 1966, just as suddenlyhe learned that the Honda agency
at SPD was for sale. . . .so
he bought it! Larry Mayworm
owned a garage and service
station at Cobb's present location, and wanted to sellso Joe bought him out, too.
Thus, the now rapidly expanding Cobb Equipment was born.
A complete line of both makes,
‘Honda and Hodaka, is available
for immediate delivery in regularly equipped models: Special
orders would, of course, require
a bit more time to fill... .but
that's expected nowadays in any
line of vehicles.
The price range for Hondas
starts at $189 and ends with a
big, heavy-duty type of motorcycle selling for $1695, all plus
tax and license, etc. In the Hodaka line the prices range from
a modest $420 to $495 for the
three models available.
Optional "extra equipment"
for these popular vehicles includes such items as luggage
racks, "Sissy Bars," pads, safety bars and windshields or farrings. And it is the buyer's
prerogative to add whatever his
or her pocketbook will permit
to the base price.
The Cobbs are doing a great

business with area residents
who appreciate the motorcycle
as a transportation and/or recreational vehicle. . . .and they
sell an impressive number to
transient customers. . . .Vacationists who suddenly succumb to the thrill of ownership for the excitement of trail
riding in our fabulous foothill
country. Whole families are investing in motorcycles now...
a new form of "togetherness"
and wholesome outdoor recreation, all in one "package."
The Cobbs are quite typical
in this regard. . . .Joe enjoys
telling about one trip in particular that he and Betty took
not too long ago. They spent
four days and nights on State
Highway #1. .Wonderful
One" as it is often called, Their
wheels took them from the Oregon border all the way down
the coast to Monterey. . . .with
a dog-leg jaunt thru Mt. Lassen
National Park for good measure!
Their enthusiasm is boundless
... and is easily transferred
to the potential or repeat customer.
Two mechanics and a parts
manager are "behind the scenes"
in the service and repair area
. . a guarantee of good customer relations with Cobb Equipment. Furthermore. . . .the
business now requires immediate expansion. . . .construction is almost completed on the
new shop at the rear of the
property. This will provide for
more efficient service and display areas. . . .plus the bonus
of a larger parking area for
a
customers,
The manufacturers of the
Honda refer to their mini-bikes
in rather affectionate terms...
quoting from one of their beautifully illustrated booklets. ...
"Where can mini-bikes go? Just
about anywhere. That's the
beauty of them. . they're
little escape machines." So,
whether it is economy in transportation or some form of "'escape" you're seeking. . . .visit
Cobb's soon, . . .they'll have
a very good solution to your
problem close to home.
And. . . .when you do visit
the display rooms and shop area,
don't step on Sam! Sam is a
beautiful lady dog. . . .a shepherd-collie mix, who was born
on the premises and: regards
it as her own.
