-4 Ihe Nevada County Nugget Wed., Aug. 1,1973 Rough and Ready News By Fay {had an interesting experience last evening. Started so late on my irrigating that it was almost dark by the time I reached the upper pasture. I was standing facing up the hill toward the woods and just soaking in the beauty of the green area that my sprinklers will reach when out hopped a young jack rabbit. He hopped slowly along until he was about 5 feet from me. I was raised in ‘‘Jack Rabbit Country” but I never Saw a live one so close before. He had been watching me as he came toward me. I really froze when I saw him and it apparently fooled him into thinking I was just part of his evening hop. He sat and inspected me for a while. I thought surely I would move or breathe or burst. Finally he seemed to make up his mind and just hopped slowly and casually around me keeping his distance of 4 or 5 feet. He or she was a young thing. The body was the typical long drawn out one of a full grown jack but it was still not fully grown and very slim. His color was lovely but “ the most interesting features were his ex ceedingly long legs and ears. He seemed exceptionally long all over. Apparently our good grass is going to raise a very large rabbit. The ears were not beautiful but they were enormous SUSIE BERENS Shipstad and Johnson’s IeeFollies open Aug. 4 When a perky “pixi-like”’ blonde arrives on the scene, Follies, opening August 14 and Watch Out!! its new home ‘‘The Civic Auditorium” in San Francisco. running through September 2 at It has to be Susie Berens, star performer of the famed Shipstad Thursday, and Johnson’s Ice F ; August 16, will benefit the Northern California Susie is a double gol#medalist Diabetes Association. Everyone pays in proportion to their use. That is certainly fair. In this method there are no other taxes. The problem is how to stand up for your basic principles long enough to get all the other taxes repealed. Or is it? Anyway I kind of feel I am selling my principles short even if this is kind of a sticky wicket sort of thing. R&R Mrs. William Ettleman is at the new Golden Center Convalescent Hospital.
