My apologiesto Penn ValleyI have been following, by post
cards, the delightful vacation of
the Floyd Hyatts of Spenceville
Road. They left early in July
for an extended trip through the
northern United States. They
are planning part of their return
trip into Canada, Young Miss
La Netta Hyatt is “Seeing
America First.” They saw the
wonders of Colorado including
Denver where Hyatt grew up and
the beautiful lake country of
Minnesota where he was born.
They also visited the Amish
country of Pennsylvania close to
Mrs. Hyatt’s birthplace and
visited her Mother, Mrs, Ford,
in Ephrata. Their itenarary included such places as Salt Lake,
the Black Hills country, the
grain states, Philadelphia and
Boston and the New England
coast, I'm sure young La Netta
learned a lot and I too found the
tip fascinating, The Hyatts
expect to be home soon,

The William Thomas family
of Rough andReady, entertained
the James Larson Family from
thebay area as weekend guests,
The Larsons with their two children and the Thomases and their
four, enjoyed ham and eggs and
trimmings at the Grange breakfast on Sunday,

The Bryan Christensens of
Rough and Ready Road have had
some of their family with them
this past week, Daughter Evelyn Hunter of Bakersfield and her
two children Debbie and Bruce
who will be here another week.
Grandson, Richard Payton,
brought his new bride, Mary, for
a visit. Richard is home from a
years service in Germany. Mary
was a June graduate at Ventura
High School, They are preparing for a trip to Virginia where
Richard is temporarily station~
ed.

The Jack Bixlers have had a
house full of company again.
Mrs. Bixler's sister, Madeline —
Larson and her husband Max of
Provo, Utah came home for
their summer vacation, Sister
Dorothy Thomas of San Francisco and brother Leland Crowley
of Pebble Beach came also,
There visiting here is not unusual since they were all born
in the Crowley family home in
nearby Washington. Visiting
sister Esther in Rough and Ready
is “coming home" to the famie
liar surroundings of younger days,

Mr, and Mrs, Jack Shaffer,
popular visitors at the Rough and
Ready Trailer Park, left for
Binghampton, New York last
Saturday. Mr. Shaffers* mother
who just celebrated her 74th
birthday, felland broke her hip,
_ Things were not going too well
for her and the Shaffers left immediately, They expect to return home about the first of
September,

Mrs, Helen Blake of Riverside,
and frequent visitor toRough and
Ready, is spending this week
with her sister Mrs, Olyve Simmons of Rough and Ready Road.
Mrs, Blake is a working visitor.
She arrived just in time to help
with the Grange breakfast last
Sunday.
The Kenneth Beaties of Rough
and Ready have just returned
from their vacation, Mr. and
Mrs, Beatie and sons Gordon and
Daniel drove their trailer to
Vancouver, From there they
sailed on the S.S, Prince George
via the inland passage, through
the coastal islands, to Skagway
most Northern Alaskan City on
their trip. Here they went by
rail to Car Cross for a most interesting side trip back into the
‘Yukon area of Canada,
They came home by way of the
Washington and Oregon Coast.
In Washington, Daniel the
youngest caught a 30 inch Salmon weighing 15 lbs. They
spent two days visiting with Mr.
Beatie’s parents in Oregon.
One incident marred their vacation, While they were away,
Mrs, Beatie's father, Mr. Cary
Arbogast, also of Rough and
Ready, fell, He is at the Sierra
Nevada Memorial Hospital and
convalescing,

Colfax Lions
Plan Giant
Public B-B-Q
The Colfax Lions Club is making final plans for a giant public
barbecue to be held Aug. 14 at
the Elmer Williams ranch in
Eden Valley.
Four hundred pounds of specially prepared beef will go into
the barbecue pit. The Lions
expect to serve more than 300
people.
In addition to the barbecue,
the Lions have planned a full
day of entertainment including
live music and games.
The event.will start as 1 p.m,
and the barbecued beef will be
served until 5 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go
into the Lions’ community projects fund which pays for a variety of local projects.
Tickets will be available from
any Lions Club member.
The ladies of the Rough and
Ready Grange will meet for
luncheon at The Office in Grass
Valley on Tuesday Aug. 16 for
their annual “Stag” get together.
After lunch they will adjourn to
the home of Marguerite Abbott
on Alta Vista Ave., for their
August business meeting.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows, wiil be honored by the official visit of Roman Rozynski,
District Deputy Grand Master of
District No, 4, at their regular
meeting Thursday, August 11,
All members of the lodge are
urged to attend and visiting Odd
Fellows are invited.
At this meeting, the plans will
be completed for the next public party which is to be held
Saturday evening, August 20,
Final arrangements will be made
and committees appointed for
the District 4 Odd Fellows picnic to be held Adgust 28, in
Pioneer Park, Nevada City.
Delegate For
Legal Secretaries
Dee Mautino of Nevada City
will fly to Glendale to represent
the Nevada County Legal Secretaries at the Governors Convention to be held Aug. 12-14,
at the Sportsman Hotel.
Mrs, Mautino, whois govemor
of the legal secretaries of this
area, was chosen during a dinner
meeting held Thursday at the
Bret Harte Inn. President Leona
Allred, conducted the meeting.
Thenext meeting will be held
on September 1, with Charlene
Klaopfenstein as chairman, A
meeting place will be designated at a later date.

Alfred A. Hodder, of Truckee,
as a member of the CalifomiaNevada Interstate Compact
Commission.
