A Long, Hectic Night For County Planners
Nevada County Planning Commission ‘spent a long and hectic
night at the regular meeting Mon=
day.
After the second public hearing
on the application of The Looser
Co, to rezone a 33.623 acre
parcel on the west side of Highway 49 just south of Grass Valley
from unclassified to commercial,
the commission recommended
approval, Photos presented at the
first hearing indicated all surrounding property within 200 feet
of the tract was commercial.
Approval of a use permit of
Gar-Dan Enterprises for trailer™
parking on private property owned
by Val Galleron on a C Zone on
the north side of Highway 40 at
Donner Lake was granted after it
was determined no other housing
was available and the owner had
to be on the premises to protect
his property.
_ Application of Brunswick Timber Products for a use permit for
a planing mill on property in an
A-1zone at the southwest corner
of Brunswick and Union Hill roads
was tabled, One vote to deny the
permit was deadlocked 3-3, a
motion to postpone action until
all persons could be heard was
also deadlocked and it was finally tabled for a future meeting
on a 4-2 vote with Bob McWhinney casting the dissenting vote.

The room was crowded with
people opposed to both of these
applications.
The commission also tabled an
application of Pioneer Propane
Co. for storage of inflammable
liquid on property owned by Es-~
mond E. and Catherine R. Lague
in an A-1 Zone about a mile south
of Grass Valley on the west side

The proposed storage facility
would be located near the entrance of Sunset Terrace subdivision and residents objected
that it would be dangerous and
unsightly. Itwas also pointed out
that the area was part of the
former Allison Ranch Acres and
still contained deed restrictions
against such a use. Action was
deferred until the county counsel could determine if the area
was in fact part of Allison Ranch
Acres and if the deed restrictions
did apply.
The supervisors in the afternoon approved a resolution allowing a road exception for Banner
CrestNo. 3 and the commission,
with this action behindthem, approved the tentative map.

Scheduled
A Seminar for Local Law Enforcement Agenciesto be held in
Placer County, Tuesday, September 15, has been announced
by District Attorney Daniel Higgins of Auburn.The one day Seminar, one of
the first of its kind in this area,
is being sponsored by Senators
Paul Lunardi and John Begovich
along with Sheriff William A.
Scott and District Attorney Higgins. It will include law enforcement officers of El Dorado,
Placer, Nevada, and Sierra counties.

spirited discussion of the report
of the commission's trailer committee which is preparing an ordinance regulating parking of
trailers in the unincorporated
areas outside mobile home parks.
The matter was c ontinued for
further study.
School Budget Passed)
Grass Valley Elementary School
Board.approved a 1964-65 budget
of $508, 622 atthe public hearing
held Aug. 5 in the Bell Hill
School.
The tentative budget was for
$498,622, but anitem of $10,000
was added at the suggestion of
Superintendent Vernon Bond for
expected state funds for an anticipated increase in enrollment.
The tax rate on secured property
wasset at $1.32 and$1.17 on unsecured, The tax rate last year
was $1.17.
Bond presented the board with
a tax fact sheet which outlined
anticipated revenue which will
be available to the district under
two new laws passed at the last
session of the legislature.
A.B, 145 will bring the district
$17,000 on the basis of $10 per
student in grades K-6 and $10 per
student in grades 1-3,
A.B, 37 will bring in $23,250
on the basis of 15 cents multiplied
by the assessed valuation of the
district of $15,500,000.
The new funds will be quickly
put to use in a total ot $40,000
in certificated r bes ises and new
