They also recommend that the present Pygmy Forest Reserve be extended and either transferred from the Department of. Conservation to the Department of Parks and Recreation or managed by both departments under an interagency cooperative agreement. They also recommend that the submerged land to a depth of 200 feet out to a half mile or more offshore from Jug Handle Creek be transferred from the State Lands Commission to the State Park System. These recommendations are published in a recently released report: on results of a joint feasibility study by the two departments. The report recommends acquisition of 642. acres of private lands in the ecological staircase as a first priority and states that subsequent acquisitions 690 acres would be highly desirable.
