departments of conservation

recommended that the Pygmy
Forest Ecological Staircase
along Jug Handle Creek on the
Mendocino County coast be
included in the State Park
System.
They also recommend that the
present Pygmy Forest Reserve
be extended and either transferred from the Department of.
Conservation to the Department
of Parks and Recreation or
managed by both departments
under an interagency
cooperative agreement. They
also recommend that the submerged land to a depth of 200
feet out to a half mile or more
offshore from Jug Handle Creek
be transferred from the State
Lands Commission to the State
Park System.
These recommendations are
published in a recently released
report: on results of a joint
feasibility study by the two
departments.
The report recommends
acquisition of 642. acres of
private lands in the ecological

State Parks Director William

international significance.”’
However, these values are
threatened by logging and
subdividing and may be lost
forever if quick action is not
taken to preserve them.

A6 lb. brisket or boneless chuck roast .
1 package dry onion soup mix
1 large green pepper chopped fine
3 stalks. celery chopped fine* PREPARATION: Place roast on heavy duty foil, sprinkle with
onion soup mix and chopped vegetables. Seal in the foil. Place on a

undisturbed, for 10 10-12 hours. Yield: 12-14 servings.
This roast is excellent served with baked potatoes or steamed, rice, since the drippings will permit making a small amount of very
rich, tasty gravy. If one does not particularly care for the onion
soup “‘as is” a perfect substitute would be’a couple of large fresh
onions thinly sliced and‘ very lightly salted used instead of the soup
mix.
