The Sailors of Rough andReady,
Charles, Barbara, and daughters
Margarite (Meg) and Mary have
a lovely home almost at the end
of Rough and Ready Road. It is
surrounded by nice big pastures
for their pets. They are all interested in horses and sheep,
They have lived in Rough and
Ready seven years, and own the
Sierra Saddlery in Grass Valley.
Charles is a member of the
County Assessors office staff
and keeps very busy. Mary is
the talented rider in the family
and with her horse, Brass
Knuckles, brings home lots of
blue ribbons, Meg is going to
give her some competition on
that score this year with her
sheep. They are both entering
sheep in the district fair, Meg
will take her registered Suffolk
yearling ram on to the state fair
when our fair is over,
Barbara has a long list of interests, the first of which is her
busy family, Besides taking
care of the saddlery shop she is
superintendent of the Sunday
school at the Trinity Episcopal
Church in Nevada City. For the
coming year she has accepted
the job of horse leader for the
Rough and Ready 4-H club, Her
interest in dramatics led to a
‘splendid job of costuming on the
melodrama, Jack Dalton, for the
Penstock Players,
Her big interest has been the
Ready Springs School Board. She
hasbeen a member of the board
for four years and has taken an
active part in the two school
bond issues and the developing
of these into the fine big school
‘plant we have there now, This
year she has accepted the additional responsibility of chairman
of the board, This year Ready
Springs will have its own 7th
and 8th graders again, This is
one of the reasons for the fine
library room the school plans in=
cluded, Everyone will use it
but for the 7th and 8th graders
it provides real preparation for
the work that lies ahead in high
school and college, The board
is justifiably proud of getting the
best possible educational system
for the district by the wisest
possible expenditure of its money. They plan an open house
very soon and welcome everyone who will come and see what
they have accomplished.

Last Wednesday the FATS met
‘at Sailors lake for a swim and
picnic. There were about 20
guests including their own and
the neighborhood children,
Everyone had a wonderful time,
The FATS are a group of Rough

meet each week, weigh in and
then eat. That's the fun part,
eating. Therules are, one
pound a week off or 50 cents in

proof that there are quite a few
50 cent pieces saved. There are
seven regular members: Mesdames Helen Avery, Helen
Beatie, Maciel Filer, Edna Gilfillan, Joan Mader, Barbara
Sailor and Helen Steele, Last
week they had as their guest,
Mrs, Lillian Gore, also of Rough

toRough and Ready and we hope
