planned in Lakeport, Aug 12.
The Lakeport Chamber of
Commerce will be hosts for
"Mendocino Day" and Mendocino County residents are
invited tovisit Lakeport and

races at Library Park on the
shores of Clear Lake are being planned. These races

EMIGRANT GAP,.Construction has started on the
_fextto last link in the cohversion of US 40 to a fourlane freeway between Sacramento anu the Nevada
State line, according to an
announcement by state highway officials from the
Marysville district office.
Therouteis also a part of
Interstate Highway 80.
The latest project in the
rugged Sierra Nevadas extends from the completed
freeway 0.8-mile west of
Emigrant Gapto just beyond
the junction of State Sign
Route 20 which is about three
miles west of Cisco Grove.
Total length of the section is

way will follow a straighter
alignment in the vicinity of
the existing highway. Traffic will continue to use the
old road during construction.
At certain locations vehicles
will be routed over specially
built bypasses around work
areas, Two-way traffic will
be maintained at all times.
Current estimates predict
completion of the job sometime in the latter part of
1963.
Three interchanges are included in the project: one
between Emigrant Gap and
Carpenter Flat, one at Yuba
Gap, andoneat the Highway
20 junction. An overhead
structure at Emigrant Gap
will crossthe railroad tracks
under the freeway.
Only one section of US/
INT 80 onthe 120 miles between the Capital and Nevada now remains which is
not either completed or under construction, This is the
6.3-mile stretch from the
Highway 2 junction to Hampshire Rocks three miles east
of Cisco Grove, It will probably get started next year.
The 5.1-mile unit from
0.8-mile west of Monte
Vista to 0,7-mile east of
Baxter is about 75 per cent
complete and is expected
to be finished by the end of
the year,
The grading and construction of bridges structures on
the 10,5-mile section over
the rocky Sierra summit is
being done under two separate contracts--one for the
west side and one for the
east.
Both are expected to be ,
completed bynext year,
weather permitting.
These two jobs will be followed by a third contract
which will include the base
