Davis Expands
Evening Courses
DAVIS~--~An expanded program of evening courses in
the Sacramento area is
planned for this fall by University of California Extension,
The courses, tobe offered
inSacramento, Davis,
Woodland, and Vacaville,
will cover a wide range of
subjects, including the liberal arts, education, engineering, real estate, and business administration.
A lecture-discussion group
is also planned on the world’s
great religions, according to
Glen Burch, head of the Sacramento Area Office of University Extension.

Fair only a month away,
judging of art exhibits entered in the big, 12-day
show got underway this week,
Plans for the State Fair's
12-day rodeo, its nightly
fireworks extravaganza,
livestock show, flower show,
and scores of special events
Each evening throughout
the 12 days of the State Fair, .
from Aug 30 through Sept 10,
an hour-long fireworks extravaganza will be presented
on the racetrack infield in
front of the Grandstands,
Hundreds of the nation's
best cowboys, both collegiate and professional, will
also are rapidly taking shape,
Alseady, a bevy of beautiful young women from. all
parts of the state have entered the Fair's Maid of California contest, and entries
also have been received for
the annual Rodeo Queen contest,
The Maid of California
will be crowned Aug 30 by
Governor EdmundG, Brown,
during opening day cereMonies, anda series of programs honoring her will be
presented throughout the 12
days’ festivities.
Plans also are being firmed up for the largest horse

by Paul Yoshida of Japan,
interest is running high for
the dog show scheduled the
morning of Aug. 26 at the
Nevada County Fair in Grass
Valley.
Yoshida brought the trophies with him from Japan
where he has the largest kennelsin his area, the Golden
GateKennels, He purchased seven Pomeranians two

inter-state travel, were the
largest single fire cause.
Dr. Sproul pointed out .
that according to available
figures about 60% of Califorreared in other states, many
in regions where summer
rainfall reduces roadside fire
