St. Mary’s will be opening a new
program this September designed
specifically for four-year-old children.
The program, presented in a
Christian atmosphere, will focus on
promoting intellectual, social and
physical self-reliance in the young
Methods and materials will follow
the design of Maria Montessori and
their own discoveries and to think for
themselves. They also help youngsters
gain the ability to use hands and
fingers with control and to coordinate
sight ‘and touch with thought and
speech. ,
Pre-schoolers will meet from 12:30 to
3 p.m. The program introduces basic
math and language concepts. Range of
activities covers drama, science, social
studies and religion, art and music. It
group-learning situations.
The kindergarten program meets
from 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. It differs from
the pre-school class in that activities
are more organized and group-oriented '
in preparation for the first grade.
Instructor Mary Cabral has her
Montessori certification as well as
early childhood and elementary

Bicentennial
Sierra College, in observance of America’s
Bicentennial year, will
sponsor a series of Bicentennial programs during 197576.
Festivities will get underway on September 18, when
noted actor John Chappell

humorist has drawn praise
from critics throughout the

One of the highlights of
Bicentennial activities at

Bicentenial Festival during
the month of April. Included
will be speakers, performing
artists, and exhibits pertaining to the Bicentennial.

and Marion Auburn narrating
their film, “Flying America.”
