Irrigation District voters in
Nevada and Placer counties
recently gave overwhelming
approvalto the NID’s YubaBear River hydro-electric
development and the directors of the district are now
looking forward to what other
steps must be taken before
actual construction can begin.
Final plans and specifications for construction bids are
being prepared by Ebasco
Services, Inc. , of New York.
Plans and specifica tions for
turbines, generators and
other electrical equipment
needed for the two new power
plants proposed under the
project were recently approved by the directors and
bids will be called for soon,
TheNID holds permits for
needed project water on Bear
River and the State Water
Rights Board this month granted permits for the district to
divert and store Middle and
South Yuba River water for its
mountain project sites.
The district must now pursue to a conclusion its applications for licenses for the
tw o new power plants. The
district has been assured that
the Federal Power Commis-~
sion will complete action on
this as soon as possible.
NID Staff members will
soon start final negotiations
with Pacific Gas and Electric
Company to hammer out
final terms of a new contract
for the purchase of hydroelectric power to be generated by the two new plants
and for water to run through
the new drum plant to be
built by PG&E in conjunction
with the NID works. Sale of
hydro-electric power and
w ater for power generation to
PG&E will finance construction of the project works,
The directors have set up
a schedule to call for construction bids by early next
year, Bids for the sale of the
revenue bond issue to finance
the projects will be sought
next, “It is the*hope of the
board that construction can start by the spring
of 1963, It will take approximately two years to complete construction of all of
the project works.
As-part of the multi-purpose
project, the directors have
already made application to
the State Department of
Water Resources for a determination of eligibility for
Davis-Grunsky recreation
funds for the four project
sites,
UCLA medical scientists
are studying the mysterious
world of the unborn baby without disturbing the normal
course of pregnancy.

GRASS VALLEY ---The city
council opened bids on three
construction projects last
week, Included in the bidding were the projectsof
Parking District No. 1, paving of Washington Street,
and paving of South Church
Street from the top of the
hill to the Catholic Church,
The first bids opened concermed the Parking District.
Hanson Bros, bid was $16 ,857,
Baldwin and Sons were low at
$16,422, and Teichert was
high at $20,837.
City engineer Carlos McGuire recommended that the
low bid be accepted, however the council tabled the
matter until the city attorney
could be consulted.
The bidding was very close
to the engineer's estimate
with the low bid 3 per cent
under and the high bid 7 per
cent over, Funds alloted for
the job amounted to$20,000.
The city clerk reported that
over $12,000 of the assessed
paymentsin the special dis. trict have already been paid.
Most of the people paid their
full assessment instead of
