Pp Irrigation District voters in Nevada and Placer counties recently gave overwhelming approvalto the NID’s YubaBear River hydro-electric development and the directors of the district are now looking forward to what other steps must be taken before actual construction can begin. Final plans and specifications for construction bids are being prepared by Ebasco Services, Inc. , of New York. Plans and specifica tions for turbines, generators and other electrical equipment needed for the two new power plants proposed under the project were recently approved by the directors and bids will be called for soon, TheNID holds permits for needed project water on Bear River and the State Water Rights Board this month granted permits for the district to divert and store Middle and South Yuba River water for its mountain project sites. The district must now pursue to a conclusion its applications for licenses for the tw o new power plants. The district has been assured that the Federal Power Commis-~ sion will complete action on this as soon as possible. NID Staff members will soon start final negotiations with Pacific Gas and Electric Company to hammer out final terms of a new contract for the purchase of hydroelectric power to be generated by the two new plants and for water to run through the new drum plant to be built by PG&E in conjunction with the NID works. Sale of hydro-electric power and w ater for power generation to PG&E will finance construction of the project works, The directors have set up a schedule to call for construction bids by early next year, Bids for the sale of the revenue bond issue to finance the projects will be sought next, “It is the*hope of the board that construction can start by the spring of 1963, It will take approximately two years to complete construction of all of the project works.
