Fair Open
The most beautiful fairgrounds
in California will play host to
thousands of visitors in the next
four days as the Nevada County
Fair opens its gates this morning . je
at. 9:45 a.m.
The first two days of the fair
have been designated as "Kids
Days" and children 12 and under
willbe admitted free until6 p.m.
Judging in most departments
will get under way Thursday morning. Hereford beef cattle will
be judged at 7 p.m. Thursday,
and light horses and dairy cattle
will be judged Saturday.
Free entertainment under the
trees and around the flower-bedecked grounds will be available
each day. Len Gray's wild animal circus, Kenny Burt's banjo
band, Charlie Pickard, master of
ceremonies and entertainer, will
furnish fun for fairgoers.

Indicted
Five Grass Valley and one Nevada City resident will be among
13 persons arraigned this morning
at 9:15 a.m, in Auburn as the tesult of a Placer County Grand Jury
indictment charging grand theft,
filing false documents with a state
officer, and conspiracy tocommit
grand theft.
The action arises from alleged
shortages in the delivery of gravel
for repairs of a wash-out on Highway 40 above Baxter. The Grand
Jury estimate of shortage is between $1600 and $2000.
Arlie and Karsten Hansen,
owners of Hansen Brothers, Grass
Valley, were among those arrested then released on $2625
bail.
Also accused is Brian A. Bennallack, former school board
member in Grass Valley.
Others included in the indictment are Thomas W. Osborne Jr.,
24, Willoughby Middaugh, both
of Grass Valley, and Ralph Hol10 Cents A Copy
Buble Team will be seen twice
daily.
Thursday night a free junior
horse show, will be held in the
arena.
Square dancing will be held on
the fair slab Thursday, Friday and
Saturday nights.
The Ray Hicks Rodeo will open
at 8 p.m. Friday night in the ae
arena for a two night run.
Sunday morning will find the
annual junior market livestock
sale under way at 10 a.m. .
Sunday morning at 9 a.m., a
sanction dog show will be hedd
with more than 500 dogs entered,
The final night ‘s entertainment
will feature the International
League Roller Derby in a game
between the Los Angeles Braves
and the Mexico City Cardenales
at 8 p.m.

Ray, Auburn, Jack Childers, Colfax, and William James Martin,

Investigation began last month
when officers of the Division of
Weights and Measures began
checking reports of a shortage on
deliveries. ;
Placer County District Attorney
Daniel J. Higgins assigned his
staff tothe investigation and told
the Grand Jury that the project
was shorted at least 859 tons of
gravel.
Gravel was purchased by the
state on the basis of a four cubic
yard scoop. The indictment

last year's “Never Come, Never Go" production will be blown up tomorrow afternoon to make way for Rollins Dam. The event will be the official
groundbreaking on the Yuba-Bear Project and is scheduled for 2 p.m. It
has been one of the few remaining structures of the old Nevada County
Narrow Gauge Railroad.
