Grass Valley
The Nevada County Fair
at Grass Valley will feature
two nights of Rodeo, Friday
and Saturday at 8 p.m. ‘in
the big arena on the Fairgrounds.
Ray Hicks of Auburn will
bring over 100 head of cattle
and horses including Brahmas. The show each night
will feature wild cow milking, team roping, bull riding, barrel racing, saddle
bronc riding, bareback riding
and calf roping.
The Junior Livestock Sale
that is held in conjunction
withthe Nevada County Fair
isa mostimportant event for
County 4-H and Future Farmer members, states Farm
Advisor, Bill Helphinstine.
We have a unique situation
in Nevada County, in that
there isnot a public livestock
auction or market place in
the County for selling livestock, Nevada County Purebred beef breeders recognized the need when they staged
the first annual sale in 1956,
Helphinstine said.
Thenumber and quality of
the livestock being offered
for sale has been increasing ons.

eight lambs were sold at the

In the Future Farmer divisions thirty four individual exhibitors will exhibit 15 beef.

sixty four individual 4-H
exhibitors will exhibit 66
beef animals, 36 dairy animals and 90 head of sheep,
4 horses, 43 poultry, and 40
rabbits.

Welsh Pony shows and meetings will be held.

Arch Brooks and his ten
piece dance band has been
engaged again this year to
play for the dance on the
"slab" starting at8 p.m. the
opening night of the Fair
Thursday.
This will be the first of a
series of dances that will be
held on the “slab” each night
of the Fair; it will bethe only
night of ballroom dancing ,
the other three nights will be
turned over tothe square and
folk dancers.
Last year the Arch Brooks
band pleased hundreds of
dancers who stayed all night
long and enjoyed dancing to
the continuous music which
consisted ofa program of
popular tunes and many request numbers.

Trail Ride
A very successful trail ride
washeld inthis area Sunday,
Aug. 21 according to Al LeGate who organized the affair.
Trailboss, Art Parker and
his horse, Gallant Bess entertained before the ride, then
the riders proceeded up Willow Valley to Lower Scott's
Lake and on up to Scott's
Flat Dam.
Plans were started for another trail ride as soon as
possible by the thirteen riders
present. Future rides will be
announced. ,

Attend Congress
Henry E. Branagh, Supervisor of the Tahoe National
Forest, has announced that
Ralph Lessel will attend
the Fifth World Forestry
Congress to be held in
Seattle, Aug. 29 through
Sept. 10. Lessel is the Range
and Recreation Staff Officer for the Forest.
The Congress, first to be
hosted by the United States
and first to be held in the
Western Hemisphere, is designed to advance the
science and practice of. forestry and to stimulate international cooperation in
developing and using the
world’s forest resources.
