City Keeps Tax
Rate Unchanged
At $2.23 Per $100
The Nevada City Council
Monday adopted a 1966 -67 budget of $257,355 and kept the
tax rate unchanged at $2.23 per
$100 of assessed valuation,
Assessed valuation in the city
showed a slight increase over
last year going from $3, 297,800
in 1965 -66 to $3,384,250, Under the present assessed valuation, the $2.23 tax rate should
bring in $75,460 from property
taxes, but the adopted budget
shows income from taxes of,
$72,900 due to a three per cent
delinquency factor,
The $2, 23 tax rate is broken
down with $1 going to the general fund, 29 cents to the park
and recreation fund, 35 cents
to the sewage fund, 20 cents to
the library fund, 24 cents to the
bond redemption fund and 15
cents to the employees retirement fund,
City manager Beryl Robinson

City Council protests past delays, current delays and probable
future delays in the construction
of the Nevada City Freeway,
Delays and postponed completion dates are destroying our
economic life and community

THE NEVADA CITY segment of the freeway,
which is finally beginning to look like a road,
was shutdown briefly last week, while state
highway officials, representatives of the contractor and bonding company officials conferred on why this job and three others being
constructed by Norman I, Fadel are behind
schedule. Work resumed on a limited scale
this week and more conferences are scheduled
on the condition of the construction firm.

values, We seek assurance that
internal problems between the
contractor, the bonding company and the Division of Highways will be resolved immediately, The long drawn out
planning and construction of
this freeway is inexcusable. We
resent the name of Nevada City
becoming synonymous with poor
freeway construction,”
The internal problems between
the contractor, the bonding
company and the division of
highways cited in the telegram
refers to the latest slowdown in
work by contractor Norman I,
Fadel Inc, The job was shut
down last week and early this
week, work was resumed, but
at an apparently slowed down
pace,
Earlier this year Robert Fadel,
owner of the firm, initiated
bankruptcy proceedings and
creditors were finally paid off
and work allowed to proceed after the bonding company advan-:
ed funds to Fadel,
A meeting of state highway
officials, Fadel, the bonding
company and the contractor's
attorney was held last Friday in
Sacramento,
Robert Biggs, assistant district
engineer for the Division of
Highway ‘s District III in Marysville, said Tuesday that the
session had been called to determine what the contractor
The Silent Freeway
planned to do with four lagging
jobs he now has underway. He
said this is a natural procedure
