They left the coast at Lincoln City, Oregon to go inland to Portland to see the antique show there, Their trip was timed to coincide with this event, Thelma Potter is the antique buff of the family, She said she had been collecting antiques for three or four years when they attended the Portland show in 1961, It was what really got her started in the antique business, Portland
puts on a really big show, It's held in their colosseum. It's quite a drawing card for dealers, Many who exhibited at the Nevada County Show in May were also-at the Portland show, They came from as far away as Missouri, One was from Arizona and one from Carmel, After the show the Potters spent another week in the area shopping, Thelma brought home some very interesting looking cartons, Her shop features old China and Glass, I found some of her pewter pieces the most interesting, Potter can take antiques or leave them, His hobby is their two sweet little Dachshunds, Both dogs are small but the newest pet is a real miniature, Coming home through the valley the Potters hit some extremely hot weather we all had, Thelma says it was even hot in Portland, That must be some kind of a record, Everytime I have been there its been damp and chilly, They must have some sunshine tho', They have such lovely roses and roses require sun, * * * * Pvt, Robert Nyce, U.S, Army, is home on 30 days leave before assignment to Korea, Bob enjoys the Army. He particulary likes his job as mechanic on heavy equipment, He has been stationed at Ft, Sill, Oklahoma since last November. Bob is the foster son of the William Bursills of Garden Lane in Rough and Ready, He got home in time to enjoy and help with the wedding of his sister Debbie last Saturday. * * * * Miss Debbie Lynette Nyce became the birde of Gary Lee Corll in a 2 p,m, ceremony at the United Methodist Church last Saturday. The bride wore a beautiful long white satin and lace, wedding gown, Her sister Mrs, Penny Brooker was matron of honor and wore a pink satin sheath with a sheer pink print gown. Her maid of honor was Miss Geanni Hinners who wore the same beautiful style in yellow. Mrs, Debbie Littlejohn, the former Debbie Peterson, made the attendants dresses and wore the same style in pink. The reception which was held in Wesley Hall was hosted by Mrs, Bursill's Missionary Circle the Susannah Wesley group, Clara says they attended to everything including the cleanup afterward, The groom's sister Mrs, Rosemary Golbert of Concord made their wedding cake, A get-acquainted dinner for the two families was served at the Bursill. home on Garden Lane in Rough and Ready afterward, Seventy-five guests of all ages enjoyed fried chicken, salads, and suitable accompaniments, Mr, Corll is registered for the fall school semester /to complete his bachelor's degree, After the festivities the young couple left for a brief honeymoon camping trip, The bride wore a colorful pant suit, They will make their home in Orangevale, ‘ * * * * Sometimes we become so accustomed to everyday sights of beauty that we really don't see them, The planter boxes at the post office fall into this category, They almost take your breath with their gorgeous color, There are common marigolds and petunias in the planting but outstanding for its color is a group of Amaranthus, They are of the Cockscomb family not Coleous as one might think at first glance, They are certainly responding to the TLC given them by Mr, Bursill and the 4-H boys and girls, This beauty did not happen by accident, Planning and daily care and water have done the job, * * * * I wish I could 'unwrite’ last weeks' item in our other paper about the meeting of the ladies of the Grange, Mrs, Hepsi Frank is very upset with me, I must have been more asleep than I realized when I turned the item into the paper, I thought I wrote that Hepsi brought her tusty tape measure to measure the tables so that the ladies might have new tablecloths when they hosted the Placer-Nevada Pomona Grange ladies on September 14, It seemsI said she was making them, Hepsi says "Wow, not in that length of time."' Actually she was only to measure the tables then purchase plastic to cover them, Mrs, Connie Baer who is chairman of the group was dessert hostess for this meeting. She served Frech cherry pie of which the ladies are especially fond, The group has two other projects under way, First is their Garden Display Booth at the Fair, Mrs, Eleanor Binder of Rough and Ready Road is chairman of this project, On Saturday, November 20 the ladies will hold their Harvest Bazaar, They do not plan a dinner for this year but chairman Margaret Brown has a complete day planned, There will be lots of handmade items to take care of your Christmas gift list in style. Dessert hostesses for next meeting, September 21, will be Mrs, Esther Bixler and Mrs, Fay Dunbar, * * * * I got a real chewing out over last week's column, Guess I better get on the ball or quit. My comment was that the Rough and Ready Chamber meeting came to the conclusion that the Community Workshop was a wonderful thing and had appointed Allen Brown and Charles Deardorf-to work with them, Both of these statements are true but this is only part of their conclusion, The two gentlemen appointed to investigate want to work with the workshop but the groups idea was some changes in policy and activities that would do a better job, I tried to say it delicately so as not to sound critical because it is a fine project, The words that came out made a statement that didn't say what the group had decided, I guess I n e paper will see mat I get one if this keeps up, ? i Sa a Aen ee * * * Rough and Ready has four displays at the Fair besides numerous interesting entries in every conceivable field, The fire department is selling soft drinks and home made goodies, The Grange has a garden display and a feature booth, The chamber is going to present a display of the old Blacksmith Shop, The shop is scheduled for the balance of its roof before winter. There should be some interesting artifacts in the booth, See you at the Fair, CRG PAPA LES OOP EL REEALEHRaP SR EC PED TE ou work. . PRAM MeRtihes, EE te hee Buy Bonds where
