A, Social security provides
a great deal of valuable protection. for you and other young
workers long before. you reach
retirement age. You, and your
family,.are protected against
loss of income resulting from
disability or death. If you should
die, your dependents may receive a lump-sum payment and
monthly cash benefits,

to retire at 62 and apply for
social security. How much will
my benefit be reduced at 62?
May my wife and fourteen year
old child get benefits? If so,
how much will their benefits be
reduced?
A, Retirement benefits beginning at 62 are reduced 20 per
cent, but since they start three
years earlier the total amount
paid over the years is often
more than the total paid tothose
who begin their benefits at 65.
Your wife and child would also
recieve benefits beginning at the
same time yours start, and their
benefits would not. be reduced.
You should discuss this with
your social security. office.
Q, Iam a 48-year-old widower with two minor children, lam

A, You should file an applieation for social security benefits right away. The nearest
social security office will help
you. If your wife worked under
social security, there may be
monthly payments for the children. You might also be able
to get monthly payments yourself, as a disabled, dependent
widower when you reach 50
years of age. All of these thingswill ._be considered when you
apply at the social security
office, Please don't delay.
