Q.I am older than my husband and will be 65 in August
1969. My husband is 63 and still
working. He does not plan toretire until he is 65, I have never
worked. Will I ever be eligible
for Medicare? Everybody. including my husband says I won't
because I've never worked,
A. Three months before you
are 65 you can enroll for the
medical insurance part of Medicare. To get this protection you
will be required to pay a premium of $4. a month. For hospital insurance you either must
have worked six different quarters in employment covered by
social security or a be a beneficiary under the regular social
security program. You and your
husband can both apply on his
social security earning record.
This would qualify you for the
hospital insurance and would not
require that your husband end
his employment. We suggest that
you and your husband contact
your social security office to
discuss the situation,
