Club of Sacramento at the annual . convention of the United Federa‘tion of Doll Clubs, Inc., held August 14-18 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. . day atthe Biltmore Ballroom and on Sunday a brunch was served in the Blue Ballroom, followed by installation of officers. . Wins Silver Air Force Wings First Lieutenant Lehmann D. Hines of Tichomingo, Okla., has been awarded the silver wings of a United States Air Force navigator following his graduation from navigator training here. Lieutenant Hines received radar and celestial navigation training in Air Force T -29 “Flying Class~room" aircraft. He is being reas~ signed to Mather AFB, for advanced training. The lieutenant, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Hines of 206 W. Ridge Road, Grass Valley, has a B.S. degree. Dorrell On Destroyer. __. Donald F. Dorrell, torpedoman's mate seaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Dorrell, 225 French Ave., Grass Valley is serving aboard the destroyer USS Somers current lyon an eightmonth tour of duty with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. Maben Goes To Seattle Keith J. Maben, electrician's mate fireman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth J. Maben of 522 Alta St., Grass Valley, a crew~ member of the ocean-going minesweeper USS Persistent, re~ cently participated in the annual Seattle Seafair celebration in Seattle, Wash. Registered from all over the United States were 476 doll collectors. Slide programs, workshops, doll exhibits and interesting talks on origin, making and identifying various dolls. Among the speakers were Ruth and. Bob Mathes on “Old Dolls”, Pat Schoonmaker on "K & R, Dolls’. Lewis Sorensen on “Wax Dolls" and Oliver Matheson on “Mechanical Dolls". Mrs. Helen Trimble of Los Angeles showed a slide picture of "Catherine Susan” a little wooden doll and her efforts in getting the convention on the way. Mrs. Gladys Dudley of Sacramento also showed an. animated picture of her homemade dolls. Close to one thousand rare and unusual dolls were on exhibit in the Blue Ballroom of the hotel. Mrs. Martha Farnsworth of Lincoln won three blue ribbons and Mrs, Lenore Coughlin of Nevada City won a third place with her so-called "Mama Parian" doll of 1862. Bustours were made to the Los Angeles County Museum and the Barnsdale Art Center where exhibits of dolls had been arranged for alltosee. Door prizes sent by members of the Federation were distributed to all present. Many of the clubs sent favors also with our Camellia City Club giving miniature hand made spoon holders for a doll house. Attending the banquet was Miss Jane Withers, movie actress who graciously gave her autograph to those who asked her. Mrs. Coughlin received one for her scrapbook. The 1964 convention will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio in August. Yi Attending from Nevada City was Mrs. “Lenore Coughlin and from Grass Valley were Mrs, Gladys Cross, Mrs, Edith Hancock and Mrs, Lydia Holub. These three trucks are part of the service team at Gra-Neva Appliances. Soroptimists Meet The Soroptimists Club of Western Nevada County will hold their first luncheon meeting Sept. 4 at Hazel’s, Nevada City.
