Fair and still meet attendance

Featured on the Fair's three
outdoor stages will be high school

acts and the Northern California
DeMolay Show and Band scheduled for two performances, daily.
More than a million blooms
will be on display in the Flower
Show with entrants shooting for
$55,000 in premiums.
The Art Show will feature
works in all media and more
than 500 prints will be on display
in the Photography Exhibit.
The final day ofthe Fair, California First Day, will feature a
Civil War Centennial Exhibit and
Forest Products Day which will
include logging demonstrations.
Set for the entire run of the Fair
isthe free Circa 1890 Exhibit and
antique show.
Anevening entertainment program, The State Fair Review, will
feature the State Fair Orchestra
and other professional acts on the nights Durante is not in the spot¥
light. The Review will include a
Fireworks Fiesta.

home August 21, 1963, Emil
Josepn Lani. He was the brother
ot Manuel Lani of Argentina and
Mary Lani of Italy and cousin of
Alvina Giani of Oakland. He was
a native of Italy aged 72 years.
He was a retired building wrecker.
Funeral mass was held at St.
Patricks C hurch.

STEVENS---in her home in
Grass Valley, Maude Stevens.
She was the mother of Ruth Rowe
and MaudeDowney, both of Grass
Valley, and George Stevens of
Sacramento; and sister of Ethel
Young of Alameda County, Eva
Prevarroof Michigan, Pearl Sullivan of Milwaukee, Wis., Joseph
Jautraw of Milwaukee, andClayton Jourtaw of Houston, Texas.
She was a native of Michigan
aged 81 years. She was a resident
of Grass Valley 45 years and a
worker with the American Red
Cross. Funeral services were held
in the Hooper Weaver Mortuary
chapel Aug. 27. Burial was in the
Masonic Cemetery.

North San Juan August 25, 1963,
Joseph Charles Covert. He was the
son of Mr, and Mrs. Francis N.
Covert of French Corral; brother
of Michael D. Hogue of Redding,
Francis Eugene Covert, Mrs.
Marguerite Smith and Stephanie
L. Covert, all of French Corral.
He wasa native of Redding and a
resident of North San Juan two
years. Funeral services were held
in the North San Juan Methodist
Church Aug. 28.

Hosking. She was the wife of
Francis Hosking of Grass Valley;~
mother of Kathleen Lindquist of
Sacramento and Carl S. Hosking
of Grass Valley. She was a native
of England aged 62 years and
came to Grass Valley 30 years
ago. Funeral services were held
in the Hooper-Weaver Mortuary
Aug. 24. Burial was in New Elm
Ridge Lawn Cemetery.

Bond Issue
Is Reduced
The Ready Springs School District board has revised its call for
a school bond election, as the result of a change in ruling by the
State Board of Allocations which
allows the district to reduce the
bond issue by more than $50, 000.

home August 21, 1963, John
Maxwell Taylor. He was the husband of Alma of Grass Valley and
brother of Jessie Waters and Elizabeth Guffith, both of Minnesota
and Margaret Castle of San Diego.
He wasa native of Scotland aged
71 years, He came to Grass Valley from Berkeley about 15 years
ago. He had been employed by
the Nevada Irrigation District as
a carpenter. Funeral services and
burial were in Modesto.

The Ready Springs School has
had a steady increase of enrollment since 1957. Last year, enrollment jumped 18 per cent over
the previous year, and an increase
of 40 students is expected in the
next three years.
Tax rate on the proposed bonds
and state loan would stabilize at
45 cents for the period of the
loan, the same rate that is now
levies onthe present school building.
A favorable voteof at least
two-thirds ofthe voters of the
districts is required on boththe
bond authorization. and on the
state loan authorization before
construction can proceed on the
additional facilities.
