Duck Season’
To Open
October 23
California duck hunters will
have a75 day straight season this
year, opening Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
Pacific Daylight Time, and running through Jan. 5.
This season, which applies to
allof California except the northeastern corner and along the Colorado River, was set Aug. 23 by
the California Fish and Game
Commission, meeting in San
Francisco.
Bag limits this year will be six
ducks daily, six ducks in possession. Nocanvasbacks or redheads
may be taken, Also set at this
meeting, within the framework of
regulations set up by the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service, was a 75
day straight goose season to co~
incide with the duck season, Bag
limit is six daily, six in posses~sion, but only three of these may
be of the dark species. One Ross's
goose may be included in the bag
limit. Only one Canada goose or
its subspecies may be included in
the bag limit in District 22 in
southeastern California.
Duck season in the area north
and east of a line formed by Highways 99, 89, and40A is the same
Oregon's---opening Oct. 8 and
running through Jan. 5, with a
limit of four daily, eight in possession. Along the Colorado
River the season will.be-the.same
as Arizona's which has not yet
been set. Goose seasons in these
two areas will be the same as
“those in Oregon and Arizona.

Entered In
State Fair
More than 5700 head of California’s quality livestock have
been entered in.the California
State Fair & Exposition, Aug. 28
through Sept. 9.
Exhibitors in the Open and
Junior divisions of the livestock
show will be competing for more
than $123,000 in premiums.
Nevada County will be represented by Open, 4-H and Future
Farmers of America during the
Fair's 13 day run.
Entered in the Open competition are Bob & Margie Paasch,
Chicago Park, 14 Suffolk Sheep.
Kentucky Flat 4-H Club member, Tom Racherly has entered
three Southdown sheep and three
market sheep. Tomis from Rough
& Ready.
Future Farmer of America en~
tries include Alan Johnson, Grass
Valley, one Shorthorn, one Suffolk, and Dave Caddy, Grass
Valley, two market sheep. Both
are members of the Nevada Union
FFA Chapter. :
The first three days of the Fair's
13 day run will be devoted to the
Junior division exhibitors. Open
division judging will begin Sept.
2, although Open division livestock will be on exhibit from the

The deadline for making
changes or additions jn the new
telephone directory is fast ap~
proaching, Pacific Telephone
Manager G.O, Hutchins said today.
Sept. 12 is the last day that
changes in the alphabetical listings of the new phone book can
be made.
Those wanting to change their
present listings in any way, such
as adding separate listings for
other members of the family,
should contact the Pacific Telephone business office, Hutchins
said.
The new Butte, Nevada, Sutter
and Yuba Counties directory will
be delivered in October.
It includes the exchanges of Alleghany, Bangor, Biggs, Camp~tonville Challenge, Chico,
Downieville, Feather Falls, Grass
Valley, Gridley, Live Oak,
Marysville, Meridian, Neva da
City, Nicolaus, North San Juan,
