Forests Dry-Little Rain
The forests have not had any
appreciable rain since the first
part of June. Timber, brush and
grass are extremely dry.
During the next two months we
can expect critical fire conditions
=windy and tinder dry, according to Tahoe National Forest officials,
Anyone planning atrip into the
forest isurged to comply with all
fire laws---obtain acampfire
permit before starting the trip.
For a safe campfire, clear an
area 10 feet in diameter of all
burnable material; keep the fire
small; do not build a fire on a
windy day.
Before leaving, make certain
the fire is dead out---drown it
with water---stir the ashes with a
shovel and repeat until the last
spark is out. Carrying a shovel
and ax is a good idea on any trip
in the mountains,
