Special USAF unit
Beale joins the Air Force in
observing the 25th anniversary
of the Air Force’s Office of
Special Investigations this
month.
The AFOSI is the sole
organization within the Air
Force that is responsible for
investigating major criminal
and counterintelligence matters.
Beale’s office, Detachment
1901, maintains regular contact
with law enforcement and investigative agencies throughout
the -Yuba-Sutter County area as
well as the federal law enforcement agencies. It provides
them with investigative and
technical assistance. when
needed.
Stuart Symington, former
secretary to the Air Force,
Cooks’ Gorner
issued instructions establishing
the Office of Special In-vestigations under the then
newly formered Office of Inspector General in July 1948.
OSI formally commenced
Operations at its Wasthington,
D.C. headquarters August 1,
1948 under the direction of Brig.
Gen. Joseph F. Carroll, a former
Federal Bureau of Investigation
agent and official.
Since its beginning, the AFOSI
mission has had only one
significant change occurring in
October 1972 with.the establishment of the Defense Inwithin the continental United
States.

To serve four very generously you will need 2 dozen nice fresh
chicken wings... . easily one of the best parts of the chicken in the
opinion of many published gourmet cooks.
Place cleaned wings (cut sharp tips off first) in kettle with
about two inches of water in bottom and simmer over. moderate

Pour the following mixture over the wings and bake in a moderate

milk to which you have added salt and pepper to taste, % teaspoon
pulverized dried rosemary leaves, 2 tablespoons minced onion, 2
tablespoons minced bell pepper and % cup dry white wine. Serve
over mounds of steamed long-grain ~ice and accompany with a
lightly dressed, tossed green salad, }:. french rolls and your
favorite beverage. A jello dessert goes very , »!! with this menu for
a beautifully balanced, nutritious and econc:: x1 meal.

fact-finding job for Air Force
commanders, AFOSI recruits
and selects its special agent
personnel from only the most
highly qualified Air Force officers, NCO’s and_ civilians.
AFOSI personnel are trained in
the most up-to-date technical
and investigative techniques
available through the USAF
Special Investigations School in
Washington, D.C.
A separate operating agency
since January 1972, AFOSI has
been the recipient of two Air
Force Outstanding Unit Awards
in its history for ‘‘exceptionally
meritorious service of great
national and_ international
significance.”

tax received
The City of Grass Valley will
receive $26,500, Nevada City
$8,000 and the county of Nevada
$42,000 from the State Board of
Equalization this week.
The Board has announced that
more than $77.6 million will be
distributed to California cities
and counties. The funds have
been collected through local .
sales and use taxes.
The $77.6 million is the third
advance payment made to the
cities and counties by the State
Board of Equalization in the
second quarter of 1973. The
funds have been collected from
business taxpayers.
The balance of the second
quarter funds will be distributed
in September as ‘‘clean-up—
payments, says the Board.
The cities will receive $51.4
million, the counties $8.1 and an
additional $14.8 million from the
Yq percent local sales and use
tax for the local county transportation fund.
Nevaaga county’s $42,000 is
broken down into a $26,000
payment and an additional
$16,000 fromthe ¥ percent local
county transportation fund.
Singles Club
elects directors
Nevada County singles met
Wednesday to elect a new fivemember Executive Board and to
make final plans for the August
31 potluck dinner and dance at
Barbara Henrickson’s house.
Members of the newly formed
Executive Board are Stan
Moore, Ruby Jewell, Jean
Burns, Dorothy Berryman and
Reno Wilson. Rae Woloshyn was
elected an ex-officio member of
the board.
The dinner and dance will
start at 8 p.m. All single persons
interested in attending the affair
or desiring information on the
group’s activities are invited to
