Many a weary Virginia City bound traveler rested at this hostelry while the white gloved stage driver importantly checked axles, wheels, harness and the hoofs of his team before continuing the long drive. The next door Livery Stable was run by Ned Dade, and in the small though indispensable blacksmith shop, set back between the Hotel] and the stable, Jim Cooke wielded the hammer and tong.
