The U.S. Army Engineer
Division this month gave a
favorable report on a plan
for flood control in Truckee
River and tributary area,
including Reno and_ other
parts of Nevada and Califronia .
The Corps of Engineers
recommended construction
of a detention type reservoir
for flood control on Martis
Creek, east of. Truckee.
They also plan minor

Peoples, of Manor Road,
Grass Valley, is serving with
Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 11 at the
North Island Naval Air
Station, San Diego.
The squadron provides
airborne early warning of
approaching enemy alrcraft and ships, and assists
in the anti-submarine protection of the Pacific Fleet.
Truckee Flood Dam Slated
channel] improvements on
the Truckee River through
Reno.
The reservoir on Martis
Creek would be a_ 15,000
acre-foot capacity earth fill
dam about 100 feet high
with an ungated outlet and
concrete lined spillways.
Truckee River improvements would be in the form
of minor bank raising work
at several points to bring
the flood-carrying capacity
to 14,000 cubic-feet per second.
The engineers explained
the Martis Reservoir solely
for flood control. The reservoir would fill during flood
releases to ease the pressure
on Truckee River. It would
automatically drain following the flood danger.
Engineers say the work
would giv to Reno a “reasonably high degree of flood
protection.” : ’
“However, it is to be
noted that the city would
still susceptible to possible
damage from rare floods of
exceptionally large magnitude,” the Corps of Engineers reported.
Estimated of the cost
. waste of taxpayers money
and pointing out alleged
faults in the petitions will be
; brought before Nevada
. County courts Friday.
Teh petitions had been held
» in abeyance pending a de. cision on petition irregulari. ties from State Attorney Gen= eral Stanley Mosk. Mosk
F ruled the petitions could be
corrected by the committee
circulating them, thereby
enabling the move to continue.
It was at this point that the
injunction was filed.
hind the scenes developed
when a group of 4-H ers and
Future Farmers with animals
in the sale decided to buy a
lamb. They formed a corporation in short order and
were soon bidding along with
the older buyers.
They lost their first choice
to Ken Beatie of the Marysville Tractor Company who
offered to sell it to them at
market price. This fete was
barely accomplished when
the lambs former owner, 4H er Tom Rackerby decided
that he never should have
sold it in the first place.
After some back-of the stands
dickering Tommy had the
lamb and the “corporation”
had to pick out another.
This time they won out and
Future Farmer Tom Shelton's
lamb wastheirs, . . butnot for
long.
This wonderful bunch of
older boys and girls presented
the little Ewe lamb to first
year 4-H er Susan Stortz so
that she may use it for her
range ewe project which she
now plans to exhibit at next
years fair.
Listed among those belonging to the corporation were
Dan Poole, Jerry Magonigal ,
Tom and Dave Casper, Lois
Magonigal, Sidney Kaasa,
Sandy and Pam Stortz, Walter White, Sharon Ousley,
Karen Blake, Martha Hoyt,
and David Thomas.
Sale Chairman, Henry Magonigal would like to thank
the following buyers for their
participation (if any have
been eliminated it is an oversight) Mother Lode Bank;
