Jackson Raybum, medical director at the County Hospital, will show up in a possible savings of thousands of .dollars in drug purchases, Generic equivalents, according to Raybum, are drugs which do not carry the trade name of the original patent holder, but are chemically the same as the original product. AWARDED BY CALIFORNIA NEWSPAPER PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION Rayburn Proposes Hiring Drug Consultant For County Hospital ' asked the county supervisors Monday to permit him to hire a local pharmacist as a consultant to aid him in purchasing and obtaining savings on drugs. “After this becomes public knowledge, " Rayburn said, “you will hear that we are using inferior drugs at the hospital, but this is simply not true, " He said after checking drug cost figures at the hospital he felt a savings could be made by starting a pharmacy at the hospital itself. He contacted several local pharmacists to see if they would be willing to work about three hours a day at the hospital. He said he obtained only one response and this mandid not feel he could spend the time at the hospital, but if a pharmacy General Thant, asking for UN help in seeking a negotiated peace, and, ina letterto Security Council Pres, Morozov, for the first time asked the aid of the Security Council in seeking “an accéptible formula" for peace, (2) Endorsement of free elections in Viet Nam, a provision of the 1965 Geneva Conference which was opposed by the Diem government and the Eisenhower administration. The sixth and seventh raids of B52 bombers each dumped 500 tons of bombs on suspected Viet Cong positions, apparently with little effect. Considerable confusion had arisen from passage of the salary bill authored by Assemblyman Gene Chappie, Trauner said that. contrary to reports in the Sacramento press, the bill passed by the legislature increased the salary of the auditor by $70 per month to become effective in 1967, He explained that the grand jury had come to him and asked him ifhe wanted a raise and also asked himtoappear. He said he told the members he felt it was their job to decide on that question and he did not think a county officer should appear before them on this matter. He said members of the grand jury met with him again in his office and came up with the $70 increase formula, He stressed that he had not asked for the raise from the grand jury or from the board of supervisors. Board chairman Gene Ricker said the board had been approached on several occasions on the question of raises, but felt it could not be done at this time. He said several calls were made to Sacramento in an effort to stop the legislation until the board of supervisors could pass concurrent resolutions, The resolutions were never approved, but the legislation passed anyway, Ricker said. Living Cost Pay Increase Authorized (Continued from Page 1) increases, The Association had asked for a $20 increase and the letter from the personnel commission had strongly recommended the $15 raise. During the afternoon session the board directed the controller to prepare an ordinance for the $15 cost of living increase, Excluded from the raise are elected officials andterm officers such as the agricultural commissioner who is prohibited by law from obtaining a pay raise during his term, The package will cost the county about $36,000 and is figured into the current budget proposal, The board also granted increases of $50 per month to the county's three judicial district judges raising their pay from $500 to $550, »# S96T *g asn8ny***3088nN Aluno5 epeaan’** WS)
