Be Se eh Ee ee, 4 The Nevada County Nugget Wednesday, August 6, 1969 State explains tax help for senior citizens More than 50,000 California residents over 65 years of age have already filed 1969 claims for a reimbursement of their 1968-69 property taxes under California's Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Law,, according to Martin Huff, executive officer of the Franchise Tax Board. Huff said the claims must be filed before Oct, 15, 1969, to be valid. Under the Senior Citizens Law, up to 95 per cent of the property taxes can be reimbursed, depending upon the individual’ s income. Senior citizens. property tax assistance is available in addition to the $70 Homeowners Property Tax Relief payment which many persons have already received, he said. To be eligible for senior citizens property tax assistance, claimants must be over 65 years of age as of Jan, 1, 1969; must own ahd occupy their own home; must have paid the property taxes on the home; and must have a total household income of less than $3,350. Box 1588, Sacramento, California 95807, Deadline for filing senior citizens_ property taxassistance claims is Oct. 15, Huge machine to Two shifts considered for key punch operation A study of the county's key punch operation may be made to see if it would be more economical to have two shifts each day. The question arose Tuesday when Clerk Theodore Kohler requested $1,200 to rent a key punch for the next year. It would be used to convert voter registration data for the electronic data processing system. BUSINESS ARD THE GIPSON'S 273-2561 REAL ESTATE @ COCKTAILS @ DANCING @ SNACKS JULIE & CAPT. KING & SON The board learned that the county has three other card key .punch units--one each in the auditor's, assessor's and welfare offices. Supervisor William Thomas suggested that "the machinery be used more. We should have a swing shift, not another machine." Thomas' desire is tohave a night shift, if necessary, to get the voter card work done on one of the other machines. He asked that a study be made of the machines to see if a double shift would be practical. Shared time is.a major principle of data processing machines. The machines are rented for a certain amount per month, so. the more they are used, the less cost there is for each item of work, The board officially refused Kohler's request 3-2 with Thomas, Supervisor Dean Lawrence and Chairman Lou Hartman, voting no. The key punch machine already is in his office, having been transferred there when the assessment changeover was completed, Thus, some means must be found of paying the $100 monthly rent for the firstpart of this year.FREE ESTIMATES THIS: MONSTER MACHINE isn't a lunar module from the moon visiting earth to collect some rock samples, It's an Autograder brought to Grass Valley by Granite Construction Co. to help with the freeway construction. The machinery will trim the sub-grade along the five-mile freeway route, bringing the road within the required tolerance. Then, it will spread and trim the sub base aggregate and the cement— treated base to grade. The autograder is electronically operated with wires strung alongside as feelers activiated by hydraulic pumps on each corner. The machine will do the job faster than man would, finishing the base work in little more than a week's work.
