SPORTS . -August 8, 1963..Page 17 .The Nugget. Page 17. Dove, Pigeon Season Set California Fish and Game Commission PresidentJamieH. Smith today announced that the Commission has agreed upon dove and pigeon hunting seasons in California for 1963. The seasons will be virtually the same as in 1962, with one major exception, President Smith said. This year the dove possession limit will be 20, instead of 10 as in previous years, The Commission must adopt seasons within a framework set b the U.S, Fish and Wildlife Service. The possession limit of 20 doves has been permissible within the framework previously, but this isthe first year the Commission has agreed to use it. The daily bag limit of 10 doves will remain the same, The seasons are as follows: DOVES Season of Sept. 28 through Oct. 27 inthe counties of Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Shasta, Humboldt, Trinity, Mendocino, Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Plumas, and Sierra. Season in the balance of the state will be from Dec, 14 through Jan. 12, 1964. The daily bag and pos-session limit is eight pigeons. Shooting hours for doves and pigeons are from one-half hour before sunrise to: sunset. To hunt pigeons and doves, hunters must have a 1963 hunting license, Migratory w ater fowl regula-]. tions for California will be set by the Fish and Game Commission in August. Ten Days Of Racing To Be Featured At California State Fair More than 300 of the West Coast's fleetest racing horses will be on hand to take part in ten days of racing at this year's California State Fair and Exposition, Aug. 28 through Sept. 9. Ellsworth of Catalpa Lane, has recently completed the Landing Force Staff Officer's Basic Operations Subcourse given by the US Atlantic Amphibious Training Command's Landing Force Training Unit at Little Creek, Va. The course, which is conducted by the United States Marine Corps, qualifies officers inthe basic skills required to act on an operations staff during the planning phases of both helicopter borne or water-borne shad i Ellsworth Completes Training operations. Lieutenant Ellsworth is assigned as a platoon commander with the 41st Civil Affairs Company at Fort Gordon, Ga. The 41st Civil Affairs Company is a part of the 95th Civil Affairs Group, the only
active civil affairs unit in the US Army. The mission of civil affairs isto advise the tactical commander on matters concerning all aspects of civil government of the country in which he is operating.
