A similar challenge to area merchants was made by Harold Nye, the new president. Assemblyman Chappie said the county chamber already has a “strong, effective voice in civic affairs, state and national government. When we et a resolution from this y, we know it represents people who are concerned, and we take heed.” Warning that all the mountain counties are competing for industry and tourism, Chappie. said: “It is incumbent on you to make a dedicated effort if you are going to keep abreast of other areas which are spending county tax dollars to encourage industry and tourists.” Chappie said he hoped the some 80 persons at this year’s installation would swell to 500 interested members in five years. The same theme was mentioned by Nye. “The fruition of our projects will be in direct relationship to your chamber,” he told the members. Nye also cautioned chamber members not to expects too many results too fast. “Many things we are doing now are like the foundation of a house. It will be some time before they are completed. It may be two-threefour years before they come to fruition.” Nye added that “our function through the chamber is to promote the county from outside. People here now are well aware of their blessings.” Chappie installed the new officers, including Nye, president; Harris, vice president again; and Larry Farrell, treasurer. New directors are Ken Maish and Barbara Lane, replacing Mary Lou Steger and Babe Pignalia. Holdover directors are Kenneth Casper, Jack Ellis, Ralph Friedrich, Leonard Gilbert, Richard Knee, Willis Perry, Leonard Prisk, Roman Rozynski and Ivan Tofft. A certificate of “outstanding public service for distinguished news coverage” was presented to The Nugget. « oidina ta ‘ er . -
