> oe eer ere ets S @ewy t = ever: eS YW NY Viking Goddess New Addition SAN FRANCISCO — Vivacious German champion Uschi (pronounced . 000-she) -Keszler, most recent addition. to Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies, is taking the United States by storm. . The fiery 19 year old German star has the audience in the palm of her hand as the Viking Goddess in the Ice Follies, now playing at Winterland in San Francisco. A native of Frankenthal, Germany, Miss Keszler began skating at age five. She has passed her Gold Test, captured the coveted Richmond Trophy (for. international women’s skating); skated in the Olympics and spent three years on the German national team. Her talents lie beyond ice skating as well. One of her records is now listed number » five on the German hit Parade. She has studied acting, tap and ballet and has taught piano lessons. “I’m also the mascot of a boxing club in Germany,” she says with great pride. Of her accomplishments, Miss’ Keszler says, “I believe in being versatile. Today,” she laments, “all the stars are specialists in one thing or another. I wish to be versatile. I can act, sing, dance, skate. I hope some day for a movie career.” In her spare time she cooks eooeeeeo With a little bit of that green stuff.” This could mean parsley, cabbage or lettuce. Her roommates say she is a great cook, even if she can’t remember the names of “this” and “that.” STATE FAIR H Ot nah a igaliy + as) DLINERS — The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been signed to headline the first five evenings of the night show at the California State Fair in Sacramento, Aug. 30-Sept. 10. Newest teen-age sensations, the Nitty Gritty’s play and sing music from the raucous 1920’s, accented with comedy and antics. Shown in an impromptu session are left to right: Ralph (Raucious) Barr, John (King of the banjo) McEuen, Jimmy (Starch Harpo) Fadden, Bruce (Spider Bones) Kunkel, Les (Totally) Thompson and Jeff (Spanky Duff) Hanna. ONE IN A MILLION — Pat Kasick, State Fair model, admires a Cattleya orchid, one of the early exhibits being prepared for the annual hall of flowers show where millions of blooms will be on display during the California State Fair in Sacramento, Aug. 30 = Sept. 10. Orchids will be in both general display and in competition. USCHI KESZLER, signed by the Shasta Corporation, parent company of Shipstads & Johnson Ice Follies, reportedly in a realm of six figures, is the newest member of the famous show, which is now playing at Winterland in San Francisco.
