program continues : Vets get priority .
"As of the end of October, local
programs have indicated that
nearly half a million doses of
_ influenza vaccine have been
administered to persons 65 and di:
over since the program began in
September. .
Most local health departments
still have some state influenza
vaccine. In order to best utilize
this vaccine, local programs
were authorized, after Nov. 20,
to administer it to other high
risk groups. Provisions of the
Thurman Act, that no charge be
made for administration, still
applies.
Priority should be given to
persons age 55 and over and to
all persons of all ages who have
such chronic conditions as heart
disease of any etiology, particularly with mitral stenosis or
cardiac insufficiency; chronic
bronchopulmonary diseases
such as asthma, chronic
bronchitis, bronchiectasis and
emphysema; chronic renal
disease and diabetes mellitus
‘and other chronic metabolic
disorders.
