A maverick star’s rays reflect startlingly from the mirrored sides of a mangnificent spire. A tired lamb sheffles determinedly beside the donkey, while a cumbersome camel lumbers behind. As they reach the end of their mysterious journey, the spire suddenly looms clearly and majestically before them. The lamb turns ‘to his slowgaited ‘companions and speaks, “Where are we? Is this it? Is this where the dream ends?” “Oh, no, little buddy,” says the donkey. ‘This is where it all begins.” So opens Oral Roberts’ “CHRISTMAS DREAM,” his latest television special. The hour-long yuletide production is scheduled on KHSL-TV, Channel 12, Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 10 P.M. The animals are part of a special stable of characters created by Sid and Marty Krofft especially for the Roberts production. They share star billing with awardwinning Natalie Cole, who sings some of her favorite Christmas _ songs and reminisces about her famous Dad, Nat King Cole. Miss Cole’s appearance on the program climaxes an eventful year for the talented young performer. Nineteenseventy-six found her walking away with two Grammies, including ‘‘Best New Artist of the Year,” and pressing still another successful album, “Natalie.” For this show she performs ‘The Christmas Song,” one of her late father’s most famous numbers, and ‘O, Holy Night.” In a nostalgic mood, she shares-with Richard and Patti Roberts the loving memories she has of her childhood when her father was at the height of his career. “When I think about him, I think of the vibrations that I felt from him when I. was around him. . felt very warm and very safe. His influence was actually probably more + spiritual than musical,” she said. Like most secondgeneration superstarts, Miss Cole’s style is uniquely her own.
