“Burgie”’
Injured Dog
Recovers
INDIAN FLAT ---"Burgie;
half. police dog pet of Mr.
and Mrs, Lyle Hosford, is
recovering from an injured
paw after being caught in a
trap. earlier this week,
Mrs, Hosford reported the
family pet has been kept indoors because neighbors
warned of a nearby mountain lion and the traps they
intended to use to catch it.
But "Burgie” took leave
to investigate the other
afternoon---he found some
meat and began chewing,
only to have the trap spring
onhisright paw. His howling set the ducksto quacking
and Mr. Hosford took off to
investigate, He whistled and
the dog became silent, waiting for his masterto arrive.
The dog will recover and
is then expected to resume
a special hobby, quail hunting.
Hunting quail began a short
time ago when Mr, Hosford
took the pet with him and
felled three quail with one
shot. "Burgie” was told to
fetch them, Ashe approached, one of the quail took off.
"Burgie” met him in mid~
air and brought him back to
his master, But he wouldn't
goafterthe othertwo, After
all, they were dead.
Then last week, Hosford
took "Burgie" back to a spot
he had driven his truck into
a ditch to avoid a deer.
While w orking to get the
truck out, Hosford saw "Burgie" leapintothe bush, The
dog came back out with another quail-alive, of course.

BLAZING PERFORMANCE . . at no extra cost. To match
the performance of Valiant, you'd have to pay extra for
an optional engine in most low-priced compacts. Valiant's
peppy engine is standard.
THE ECONOMY LASTS! Gas economy? Just remember
that a Valiant scored 26.13 mpg fh last year's Mobilgas
Economy Run. More savings. For example: 32,000-mile
lube cycle on major chassis points. Change oil only haif
as often as last year.
