Mark" team...Grass Valley Champs : «Nevada County NUGGET Jolly Roger To Open With Fanfare And Celebrities GLENBROOK ---The pilot operation of a Jolly Roger Lanes that may bring bowling to small cities across the nation holds a grand opening Friday and Saturday. And the opening will attract bowling teams, television and radio celebrities from throughout Northern California's valleysto make the occasion a memorable one for Grass Valley and Nevada City residents. Friday night the festivities will open with a match between the Nevada City andGrass Valley Elks clubs, The Nevada City team of Beryl Robinson, Lawrence Painter, John Rankin, Carl Wasley and Bert See will match pins with their fraternal brothers Cliff Mill, Walt Hendrick, Dewey Vaughn, Jack Hager and Doc Mott. The new bowling lanes will feature for their opening freerefreshments, bowling gifts, and door prizes, according to manager Don Daniels. Daniels, manager of the lanes is likely to be a tired but jolly participant in the events, He is no stranger to Nevada County. He has liv ed in Nevada County since 1947. Daniels has a background in the entertainment field as atrombonist, having played in some of the famous bands such as Gus Arnheim and Stan Kenton, He also appeared on the Frank Sinatra Hit Parade and the Dick Haymes show, in addition to playing first trombone at RKO Studios for several’ years. An ex-marine of world war 2, Donmet and married his wife, Betty, in 1941 prior to his hitch in the service, when both were employed at the Earl Carrol Theater in Hollywood. The Daniels have four children, Don, Jr., 19 Vickey, 18, Debby, 3, and Dean, 2. Daniels was selected for training and management of the Jolly Rogers Lane from over 100 applicants for the position. He announces that day time classes will be held weekday mornings at the 12lane bowl situated midway between Grass Valley and Nevada City on Highway 49 at Lake Olympia Road.
