Jolly Roger To Open With
Fanfare And Celebrities
GLENBROOK ---The pilot
operation of a Jolly Roger
Lanes that may bring bowling to small cities across
the nation holds a grand
opening Friday and
Saturday.
And the opening will
attract bowling teams,
television and radio celebrities from throughout
Northern California's valleysto make the occasion a
memorable one for Grass
Valley and Nevada City
residents.
Friday night the festivities will open with a match
between the Nevada City
andGrass Valley Elks clubs,
The Nevada City team of
Beryl Robinson, Lawrence
Painter, John Rankin, Carl
Wasley and Bert See will
match pins with their fraternal brothers Cliff Mill, Walt
Hendrick, Dewey Vaughn,
Jack Hager and Doc Mott.
The new bowling lanes
will feature for their opening freerefreshments, bowling gifts, and door prizes,
according to manager Don
Daniels.

Valley and Auburn will
meet, while teams from
Grass Valley, Pittsburg and
Roseville will engage ina
round robin tournament,
The Grass Valley Golden
Sierra team includes Betty
Holloran, Shirley Jenkins,
Dorothy Penaluna, Winnie
Veale and Billie Andrews.
Four of the five Auburn
team members are Dorothy
Larda, Kitty Brown, Marian
Groom and Betty Stratahan.
The Grass Valley Black
Barts:team, with Tom Hoskins as captain, will meet
the Vogue Lanes team from
Pittsburg, Ike Ogle, captain, in another featured
game.
In the round robin, the
Grass Valley ? Mark team
will vie with the Fireside
Lane Team of Roseville and
the Marysville Elks team.
Sponsor of the ? Mark
team, Roy Wilson, announces the following team
members: Tim Carson,
captain, Chuck Fraizer,
anchorman, Ted Hanson,
John Willay and Bud Waving.
The Fireside team includes Milan Muselin, captain, Chuck Museline, Dan
Flynn, Bill Muselin and Gay
Hall,
But the featured event of
the bowling evening will
find sportscaster Stu Nahan,
KCRA TV andradio, bouncing the ball down the alley
against the swinging KXOA
deejay Dale Ware.
Among those who know
each participant.best, there
hasbeen a mad rush to take
bets on the opponent.
Nahan will fly in at Loma
Rica airport in time to be at
the Jolly Roger at 8 p.m.,
andis scheduled to leave to
catch the late news show
prior to 10 p.m.
Ware is arriving early in
the afternoon to spin a few
records for the younger set.
He'll spina few, give a few
away all afternoon,
Talk around the high
school set is that Ware will
win the match because of
the tremendous cheering
section they intend to activate for him.
Daniels, manager of the
lanes is likely to be a tired
but jolly participant in the
events, He is no stranger to
Nevada County.
He has liv ed in Nevada
County since 1947.
Daniels has a background
in the entertainment field
as atrombonist,
having
played in some of the famous bands such as Gus Arnheim and Stan Kenton, He
also appeared on the Frank
Sinatra Hit Parade and the
Dick Haymes show, in addition to playing first trombone at RKO Studios for several’ years.
An ex-marine of world
war 2, Donmet and married
his wife, Betty, in 1941 prior
to his hitch in the service,
when both were employed at
the Earl Carrol Theater in
Hollywood.
The Daniels have four
children, Don, Jr., 19
Vickey, 18, Debby, 3, and
Dean, 2.
Daniels was selected for
training and management of
the Jolly Rogers Lane from
over 100 applicants for the
position.
He announces that day
time classes will be held
weekday mornings at the 12lane bowl situated midway
between Grass Valley and
Nevada City on Highway 49
at Lake Olympia Road.
The ndiisewife is invited
to these lessons, Baby sitter
service will be provided in
the supervised nursery .
Teenclasses will be conducted afternoons and weekends. Juniors will have
classes Saturday mornings.

Of Folk Dancing
Meet For Evening
GRASS VALLE Y---The
Nuggeteers will meet at the
Scout Lodge in Grass Valley
Sunday for an evening of
folk-dancing beginning at
7:30 with Brita and Roman
Rozynski acting as hosts.
This will be the last session of the year with no further meetings scheduled until Jan. 7.
An invitation to a dance
party has been received from
the Olivehurst Juniorettes to
take place at the Ella School
in Olivehurst Saturday at 8
p.m.

“Lodging for a Night", Roy
H, Park, editor-in-chief of
the Duncan Hines Institute,
announced today.
They are among 9300 eating and lodging places in
North America "Recommended by Duncan Hines, "
Listed in "Adventure in
Good Eating” is the Rainbow
Tavern dedetas in Soda
Springs.
Listed in “Lodging for a
Night" isthe National Hotel
in Nevada City,
The third Duncan Hines
travel book, "Vacation
Guide," was republished in
July.
“This is our twentyseventh year of continuous
publication and service to
the American traveling
public,” Park stated, “It is
also our fifth year of continuing surveys -Our public
opinion audit of eating and
lodging establishments.
This year we_ received
60, 000 nominations of more

suggestions for its improvement. Newton said his
group was especially concerned withthe "basic definition" of a subdivision, and
he said his group was proposing “different sets of restrictions for different types
of subdivisions. "
The Newton group includes Leonard Carey,
chairman; John P, O'Brien,
Robert Chesney, W. H,
Stinson, Robert Shine, and
C, Roy Smith,
Edmunds praised the constructive attitude of this
group, as well as others
which had submitted written
comments,
Attorney Victor Huber
spoke in support of a "new
subdivision ordinance”
which had been drafted by a
study committee of the
county Board of Realtors,
but had not yet been approved by the full membership of the board.
He said representatives
of his group would attempt
to meet with a planning
commission committee before Jan. ‘8 to study the
proposals,
