ee ee 4-H Club Seeds New County Rd. CHICAGO PARK---The Chicago Park Hornets had a good work day on November 26th, intherain, They were holding their annual Community Club Project work day. The Club seeded the sides. of the new County road which was recently completed in this district. members were there. They planted a mixture of grass seeds, including Crimson Clover, The club purchased a ten pound bag of Clover seed, The roadside seeding was suggested by the Farm Advisor, Mr, Wm, Helphenstine. This seed will do a lot of good as it will hold the soil on the banks and limit erosion, The rain proved helpful as the seeds stuck to the banks andtothe ground, The six members present and the four leaders seeded about a mile and a half of roadside. After the planting was done everyone had hot chocolate and listened to the agricultural leader who talked about going to the Cow Palace, Greece was settled by stone-age migrants before 3000 B,C, Six of the . Program Set ROCKLIN ---The first formal musical program to be presented at Sierra college will be offered tomorrow on the Rocklin campus in the form of a traditional and modern Christmas program of choir and concert band, The public is invited to the program which will men in more than a dozen numbers, The 8 p.m. performance will follow a 10 a.m. performance for the student body, and a special show “pre-showing” at the Lincoln Garden and Women's clubs held yesterday. The annual Christmas program will bethefirst presented on the new college campusand will utilize the voices and instruments of the most Sierra musicians in history. Rehearsals began almost a month ago under the direction of vocal instructor Collan Walker and Band Conductor Clifford Brau. Students from T ahoe to Roseville and from Grass Valley to Placerville are participating in the program, Walker's choir officers helped in the selection of the unusually wide range of vocal offerings, which include such classics as Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" and Mozart's “Allelujia, along with negro spirituals, a "Jingle Bells Calypso," a processional and candlelight number, "Light of light, " and such universal favorites as"Silent Night" and "O Come, all ye faithful,” Highlighting the band numbers will be "Toyland" from the popular "Babes in Toyland" music of Victor Herbert. SuzanneJackson, Auburn, will accompany the choir, which Walker will conduct. Also featured will be a 14 person woman's ensemble, a group of nine mixed ensemble and a women’s double trio. Local Pvt. Handles Top Dogs . FORT BUCKNER, OKINAWA (AHTNC)---Army Pvt. Hollis H, HillJr., 21, whose parents and wife, Margret, live at 114 Chester Street, Grass . Valley, is a member of the 137th Ordnance Company's Security Platoon which recently wontheteam competition at the first Annual Inter-Service Sentry Dog Field Trials on Okinawa. The Platoon, which isregularly stationed on Okinawa, scored 1,081 out ofa possible 1,200 points at the trials, Points were awarded for dog appearance, obedience on and off the leash, and performance on the obstacle and attack courses and at a night penetration problem, Teams from eight other Army and Air Force units also participated in this competition. Hill, a dog handler in the company, entered the Army . in August 1959 and was stationed at Ford Ord, before arriving on Okinawa 2 years ago. He attended Nevada Union High School and was employed by the Yuba River Lumber Company before entering the Army. The crossbill is a member of the finch family whose unusual bill enables it to pry apart the scales of a pine cone while extracting the pine seed with its tongue.
