and: Grass Valley will be open
from’ 8:30 a.m, until 5 p.m.,
' Saturday, Dec, 16, for all services except money orders.
There will be no Sunday services in the area, nor will there
be any city or rural delivery
of mail on Sunday.
Regular office hours will be in
effect on weekdays during the
‘Christmas period, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Most downtown stores in Nevada city will remain open Friday-night until 9 p.m.
They willalso stay open nights,
Monday through Friday, the week
before Christmas.

Nugget Plans
Yule Edition
The Nevada County Nugget will
publish its Christmas Greeting
Edition next week, Dec. 20.
This is the medium through
which many business establishments throughout the county extend their season's greetings to
their customers and friends.
Anyone who has not been contacted for a Christmas Greeting
insertion may call the Nugget
office, 265-2471 if they wish
to be included.
The greetings are available in
many selections and sizes, Deadline for ordering an insertion
is Monday, Dec, 18.
Change Announced
Following the printing of today's Nugget Advertiser,
which has been distributed throughout the Western Nevada
County area free of charge, the Advertiser as such, will
cease publication,
The Nevada County Nugget newspaper will continue publication, through subscription, as usual.
Commencing ‘with the Dec, 20 issue, all advertising will
be incorporated into the Nevada County Nugget newspaper,
distributed to subscribers only, through our second-class
mailing permit.
To the merchant it will mean better prominence and
placement of his message and discourage "stacking" of the
same size and competing advertisements ontop of one another.
It will also mean that those receiving the Nevada County
Nugget are subscribers by choice and are more likely to
read it carefully instead of discarding it along with other
third class "shopper" mailings,
To the reader, it will afford more live news, more space
for interesting features, photo journalism and historical
recollections, He will also find it much easier to browse
through its contents and advertising messages,

Donation Day
. Parade Friday
Friday, Dec. 15, will mark
the 84th observance of Grass
Valley's unique Donation Day,
The members of Ladies Relief
Society are busy completing
plans for the parade when some
2,500 local students are expectéd
to march through the downtown
section of Grass Valley carrying’
their individual contributions of
food for needy families of the
area,
Many local service groups donate time and money to provide supplementary groceries,
toys and Christmas dinners. to
the families who seem most in
need of a helping hand at this
time of year.
Newcomers to the area have
remarked on how overwhelmed
theywere to witness their first
Donation Day Parade and to see
the blocks long procession of
youngsters whose thoughts that
day are on giving rather than
receiving, The event has been
covered on television several
times in recent years and was
carried by a national wire-service in 1965, resulting in Page
One stories in many journals
across the country.
Anyone not wishing to stand
along the parade route is welcome to come to the Veterans
Memorial Building to watch the
students file through and deposit their contributions before
dispersing for the Christmas
holidays.
A brief program is scheduled,
with the Rev. Noel Cardin of
First Methodist Church offering
the benediction and George Bryant, principal of Hennessy School
offering a few remarks, Don
Baggett's NUHS chorus will present one or two Christmas selections,
Members of the Grass Valley
Volunteer Fire Department will
pass through the business district during the parade to collect
funds to help finance the yearround activities of Ladies Relief Society, which consist of
purchasing groceries or other
necessities for families or individuals temporarily in need
due to illness or catastrophe.
The society also provides dental
care for a number of school
children, Mrs, Dallas Fellersen
and. Mrs. Edna Bartsch, the
school nurses, are indispensable
members of the group, as they
schedule the dental clinics and
are in a position to keep intouch
with the needs of local families
who have school-age children.
Mrs, John Mann, president of
Ladies Relief Society, has announced that the Donation Day
Parade will form in front of
Hennessy School at 10 on Friday, the fifteenth. Dr. Arch McPherson, Nevada City Mayor,
will lead off with his bagpipes,
and the bands of both NUHS
and Hennessy School will set
the tempo for the marchers.
The boxes of food and toys
usually go to about 100 homes,
and the boys of NUHS Future
Farmers of America help sort
and pack the canned goods,

Santa Claus, with his bag bulging with presents for boys and
girls, will switch his usual means

Okayed
Approval of the contract for the
purchase of the old Nevada
Theater was finalized last week
by the Liberal Arts Commission,
The vote was unanimous,
Final purchase price of the
100-year old structure was $40,000 and over 50 persons attended
the meeting despite a torrential
downpour,
The group loudly acclaimed the
commission's president, Frank
Francis, and past president, John
Larue for their efforts and results in handling the negotiations,
The contract was first rejected
of transportation when he arrives
in Nevada City Saturday, Dec. 16,
Instead of his sleigh and eight
tiny reindeer, has enlisted the aid
of the Nevada City Fire Department and will arrive on a fire
truck, and sirens will herald
his approach at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Merchants of Nevada City have
also come to the aid of the dear
old man and in keeping with
the holiday spirit are giving away free chances on more than
$150 worth of merchandise with
winners to be named Dec, 23,
the Saturday before Christmas.
Winners’ names will be posted
on the window at the office of
the Nugget and the Union by 9a.m.
